Scott Nietermier(sp?) is out for Canada. That could hurt them, but it might mean McCabe is in if he's healthy.

McCabe is in. He's healthy, got a goal last night too :). Boumeester is the 7th defenceman and boyle got added to the taxi squad.

That's awesome, he deserves the spot. They've had so many injuries this year it gets hard to remember who's in the line-up and who's not.

Ya just 2 defenceman injured, all 13 forwards are healthy.

nice. i kind of gave up reading about them during this rough period. I guess last night was a step in the right direction, and they do still have the final playoff spot, but they pretty much have had Atlanta's number this year so i don't know if that really says anything.

Why the fuck were Boumeeister and Boyle called up and Phaneuf wasn't? I realize he's a rookie, but you should give the kid some experience, and he's already a better player than either of them, and the future holds even better things for him.

I hear ya, Phaneuf is my #2 fav player so it pisses me off a lot but a good reason they may not have taken him is because say he screws something big up for canada it would mentally affect him for many years to come, quite like what happened to salo in 02 (that centre ice goal) he never recovered. But then again my thought was that they should have added him as the 7th guy and give him very very minimal ice time against the good teams and in the medal round and play him more frequently against teams like Italy. Only reason why Boumeester was added over him was due to his experience in the world cup in 04.

Yeah, but I mean, even add Phaneuf to the Taxi squad to go there for the experience... he's the future of Canadian defence.... they could use some young guys with all the old-timers so that we're not screwed four years down the road.

Czechs could be a problem, we'll see. Hopefully all this gretzky stuff doesn't affect anything.

Looks like Mike Barnett (Coyotes GM) made a bet with tocchet for the superbowl according to a report.

I really can't understand why anyone would gamble such large sums of money in any circumstance. It just seems stupid and makes a good way to torture yourself.

Oh man, this starts in less than a couple days. Today Team Canada practiced at a local community rink by my house that has olympic size ice, i was gonna go over and watch but i figured that one rink would be close off :(

Can't we just merge this with the NHL one? We've already been discussing that stuff in there anyways, we don't really need an entire thread for this as well.

The pool situation is going to fuck Finland out of the 3rd or 4th place that they deserve.

Actually I'm not sure because I can't seem to find out how the pools and rounds go. I think I know but I can't find it on the olympics site.

We were going to have a drink for every goal Canada scores tomorrow, then we realized that they're playing Italy, and that none of us want alcohol poisoning.
