View Full Version : Bill Simmons
I want the general national opinion on Simmons. Obviously as a Boston guy, I love him and think he's hilarious. Do you think he talks about Boston too much? Does he make you hate the Patriots/Red Sox? Do you think his jokes are lame? I've come to realize a lot of people hate the guy, and I can't really figure it out.

his article about the Super Bowl was golden. I just read the NBA one too, and it was great. He's a top notch kind of guy.

He's great and i rarely cheer for Boston teams outside of my school. One of the best articles i have read is his recap of the 2005 world series, pure gold.
I think he's funny as shit, and I'm from New York.

I used to like him a lot, now i can't stand the guy. I'm a HUGE Knicks fan, so you an probably understand why. He takes cheap shots at the Knicks every column he writes, regardless if its about basketball or not. And he does write way to much about Boston sports. Hes a damn good writer, but it just seems unfair that such a Boston homer gets so much publicity. Theres no representation from the rest of the country.

call me crazy, but I just don't get that offended by jokes about my teams.
It might be because I've heard roughly a pillion jokes made at the expense of my teams, but funny is funny, it's as simple as that.

i post his articles on here all the time...he's the best sports writer in america.

i don't think he wants one. he doesn't think he's good on television, and generally has trouble doing radio or tv.
i hate the red sox because I am a yankees fan.
uh... cool?

maybe it's because the entire nation is taking shots at the Knicks right now because Isiah Thomas is a worthless GM and the Knicks suck?

i love bill simmons. i think a lot of it has to do with me being from MA and getting his whole mentality. but regardless, he's one of the few sports writers i can read on a regular basis, regardless of topic.

i like him. he's got some good jokes, but doesn't make them at the expense of his columns. which is rare.
i just hate boston teams because of the rest of the media. same for new york teams, too.

No argument here, Isiah ran this team into the ground. I just finished signing my "Fire Isiah Thomas" online petition

Extremely clever, and that's what sets him apart from the rest.

i love the guy. everything he's written i've enjoyed.
although he seems to make a point of taking a shot at isiah every column now.
which is getting kind of tired.
but he's still awesome.

He's very satirical. I'm from NY, and on the rare occasion that he makes a real point, I somewhat enjoy reading his articles. He does however, tend to be a little over the top at times.

thats not true. The Globe has produced great writers like Gammons, Ryan, MacMullan, McDonough and more recently Michael Smith and Holley (i can't include shaugnessy).

But we don't have a thread here for any other Page 2 writer. I love Page 2, don't get me wrong, read it all the time. But Simmons is the only one that shines above the rest.

dude, New York makes 1.7 million every home game....no wonder why they trade for expensive people.
