What do you guys do when others criticize the music you listen to? I was just asking because my cousin (who is an "indie kid with an attitude") is very very opinionated when it comes to music. Basically, if he doesn't like it, it sucks. Bands he likes are Eels, Matthew Good Band, Sunny Day Real Estate, Cave-In, etc. He constantly tells me that AFI, Bad Religion, NOFX, Rancid...suck because they have done nothing new for music, and don't have their own developed "sound" If you were in my position, what would you say to him that would come off as intelligent and not just "Fuck you they rule"

people have their own opinion and some are just more hard headed than others to see that other people have different opinions. Some of these are tollerable to be around. others, you want to slap around. i would just ignore him...probably blast some rancid to drown him out. ...yeah i realize that isn't really mature. but eh....

tell him that if he was a tru indie kid he would have a more open mind.

See the problem is you two like different types of music. So agreeing will be imposable. But in my head im trying to figure out his point of view, but dave matthews is an alternative band with a violan. Eels sound like every singal 90's alternative band. As for you AFI is one of the most original band out there, ask him to name one band that sounds like them, he cant, as for bands that sound like DAVE matthews, John Myers comes to mind.
