i'm f*cking fed up with this whole pop-punk issue. by definition, pop-punk is punk music (ok, so it's not always "punk") that's popular. it's not a genre or style of music as such, but bands seem to become pop-punk when they get successful and hit the mainstream, which is when a lot of you people give them a whole lotta shit they don't deserve. if a band's mainstream in the us but not in the uk, does that mean that they're not "pop-punk" in the uk but they are in the us? so f*ck off and stop hating every band that gets a bit of success. yeah, a lot of it is shit in my opinion (blink182, good charlotte etc.) but you can't judge all bands the same just cuz they're melodic, sing about girls, have emo elements and happen to become successful. a lot of you seem to think you're cooler than the rest of us because you never listen to these bands, but it's obvious that you're just doing it for the image rather than the music. and how punk does that make you? it doesn't, so fuck off.

This issue is stupid.

Listen to what you want to and shut up.

I give credit to musicians where credit is due. When a band changes their style, sound, attitude about why they make music in the first place, and appearance for their acceptance into the "mainstream", I don't see credit due there. Bands that are created inside a studio, for the sole purpose of making money, and selling an image, then that band jumps onto my "pop" list.
So, by that definition, "pop-punk" would be a supposed punk band, either studio-born, or studio-bought.

The Dancehall Crashers are one of the coolest grrlie bands I have ever listened to. Fabulous Disaster is another. They're more ska then punk, but they still blow away half the shit on the radio, and I don't see them on it. Their lyrics alone beat anything I've had the displeasure of hearing on the radio this past few years, and none of their lyrics are too vulgar to be radioplayed. Why is it then that they'd rather have the bullshit they have on now? To sell you an image, and to get you to believe that what you're hearing is something more then the load of shit it really is.

Pleasant day to you. :)

You seem to think that I give a shit about an image. I am me okay? I am not trying to be like anything. I don't give a flying rat's ass whether or not you, or anyone else, thinks I'm "punk". Punk is just a work describing a enre of music I love, and have loved since childhood.
I don't listen to my music to make myself cool. I'm cool without it, so who the hell are you to tell me otherwise? I never once made fun of anyone who listens to poppunk or anything else. I don't give a crap what anyone listens to. I discuss what I don't like about it.
That's no reason to tell me to fuck off, as you so eloquently put it.

Secondly - if you're going to edit the profanity in your post by using an asteric (*) for the first time you used the word "fuck", you may want to be consistent with it. ;)

Old and boring. Just let others be FFS and no one will have a problem with anyone else.

doesnt the word pop derived from popular, hence punk bands that becomes more well known and popolar become "pop" punk!

The word "pop-punk" came to be because pop-punk bands play fast paced kinda heavy music, but their lyrics are "pop"... it's kinda an oxymoron if you think about it, cuz pop and punk lyrics are totally different..
