View Full Version : All Star Reserves announced
Drew Beringer

EAST: Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, Ben Wallace, Rasheed Wallace, Chris Bosh, Paul Pierce and Vince Carter
WEST:Ray Allen, Tony Parker Dirk Nowitzki, Elton Brand,Pau Gasol, Kevin Garnett and Shawn Marion.
I think it's bullshit taht 4 Pistons made it, especially since Redd and Arenas should be there. West reserves I agree with pretty much.

From ESPNs Page 2:
The biggest question about tonight's announcement of the NBA All-Star Game reserves:
How many Pistons will make it?
Last month, there was some hype about the entire starting 5 being voted in, but that was back when they were still on a 72-win pace; that bandwagon has slowed this week with Detroit's two losses in their last 3 games.
The anticipation is that the NBA's best backcourt -- Billups and Hamilton -- are both locks (deservingly so), along with Big Ben. Rasheed Wallace was third among fan voting for forwards and has been rumored to make it. Tayshaun Prince is on the outside looking in. Four out of five, when there are only seven spots to go around the entire East? That's greedy.
Is the success of a team as a unit appropriate for an individual showcase like the All-Star Game? I'd argue it's not the place for that; the NBA Finals are. If fans wanted to see the Pistons' starting 5, they'd watch a regular season game.
The All-Star Game should reward individual success over team success. The Pistons are great precisely because they think of themselves as one unit, not multiple stars. That's not what the NBA All-Star Game is supposed to be about, but that's what it's shaping up to be this season.
I love watching the Pistons starters play as a group, but if there's one place where team has little value, it's the NBA All-Star Game.

David Stern still gets to choose who fills the spot of J.O. which in turn will be Ben Wallace, Chris Bosh, Paul Pierce, Vince Carter, but Gilbert Arenas will get the substitute spot most def.

bleh. rasheed is having a pretty good season so i'd agree there... ric ham though.. gtfo.
i may take a lot of heat for this, but I really don't think the Ben Wallace should ever be on an All Star team, his game is soooooo one sided. He can't shoot and can't dribble, the only thing he can do is be tall and get blocks by playing help defense, but i guess this is what brings up what i hate about basketball, that being that body type dominates over true skill
in the west, two guys who are both having great seasons who are RARELY talked about are mehmet okur and andrei kirilenko, i know they are from the same team and both could never make the team, but i just love the way both of them play, kirilenko is probably one of the top 5 overall players in the league (guys who can do pretty much everything), i would put him up there with nash, j kidd, lebron, and either wade/ginobili

kidd's not a top five player, neither is ginobli.
ak is an awesome player, and probably one of the best all around in the leauge, i wont argue there. dudes a beaaaaast. anyone with the nick name ak 47's gotta be bad ass
imo, okur's stats are inflated...when, and if boozer comes back, his numbers will reduce drastically.

yeah, you're right it is all about being tall/big. that's why shawn bradley and gheorghe muresan are the two best centers of all time.

What a joke..
Rasheed Wallace doesnt deserve to be on the squad at all...his modest stats are inflated by his teammates.. i agree with Chauncey, the other 4 are debatable..
Arenas not getting on the squad is a joke. 28.2 per game and a winning record when Paul Pierce gets on with worse stats all around and 17 total wins...Ugh..
Mehmet Okur is one of the streakiest players in the league, his name shouldnt be mentioned on here at all..
Also, Melo is a total snub for holding together that mess of a team. I saw some article saying the Nuggets had about 7 small forwards and 5 guards.. haha
Overall, pretty good picks though. Im glad Ray Allen got in, i hope he wins the 3 point contest too

so sheed should be punished because he plays with a team that shares the ball and "inflates his stats"? I don't know if i buy that argument against him. however, i would say that 4 is excessive, even for me, a pistons fan.

he's a rookie though, so the shaft is to be expected. Plus I think David West has even more to do w/ the Hornets success.
The biggest shaft here to me is Arenas, but he'll be on there replacing O'Neal. Redd should be in there instead of a Piston too, namely Rasheed.

doesnt matter, rookie or not...paul is the main reason for the hornets success...he's made david west a better player. chris paul is the point guard of the future in the nba...i think we've got another jason kidd on our hands.

iverson was one hell of a rookie...and is one hell of a player...but did nothing to make his team better, the sixers had a better team ai's rookie year than paul's been given. stackhouse, coleman, weatherspoon was still producing. they only won 22 games that season. iverson rarley makes any of his teammates around him better(which is why he prolly wont be in philly next season).
the hornets won 18 games all last season...and have already won 25 this year...befoere the all star break, and are 2 games over .500. paul constantly makes everyone around him better(except that bum jr smith), and is a better all around player and influence than iverson.
chris paul should be an all star...but he'll have plennnnty of those.

pierce is a better all around player than redd. he's better statistically not just in scoring, but every other category. ppg, apg, rpg, fg%.
he deserves it more than redd IMO. pierce has no help in boston right now. the young guns are just preparing themselves for next season. it's no always about a better record, players in the past have made it from not so good teams.
