As said before, they completly sound like Underoath. It's so obvious... but the music itself isn't that bad...

A friend of mine told me about this band a few weeks ago. They are really good. Congrats to them.

Victory may have a ton of bands... but their good bands do well and their shitty bands do shitty... thats how it is... a label can stand behind your music but they can't make your music good... not specifically directed at these guys... Victory has made a few good snags... they've also signed some bogus/ripoff bands and its those that you just will stop hearing about sooner or later

God started the movement.

But they do sound like Underoath and I think that is going to be said CONSTANTLY. Guarantee the sticker on the new album will have that on the front - For Fans of Underoath. And that's it.

sucks that they got signed to a deal that they'll probably be negotiating their way out of in a year, like pretty much every other victory band

Never really paid much attention to these guys at all. I've played a few shows with them, but never really went out of my way to watch them. After listening to their myspace, they sound A LOT like Underoath...but congratulations to them, I do know they're pretty damn hard working.

spagator
02/11/06, 09:10 AM
i listened to a band called four letter lie maybe a year or two ago but i remember them being a lot heavier...same band?

in any case, it's always awesome for a band when they get signed.

they send out a lot of myspace bulletins. victory just doesn't do it for me anymore. i don't really know why they keep signing bands. im sure initially their mindset is like "oh wow i love this band, i bet we can do so much with this band...." fast forward to like 2 or 3 months after the signing and their mindset is "oh man, we gotta push hawthorne heights more! more hawthorne, more atreyu, more aiden!" and then this mindset goes on for however long it takes them to find another band on purevolume that draws their attention for a good month or so. its repeats like this, while bands like four letter lie, the junior varsity, and bayside get shit promotion.

CurtyB
02/11/06, 10:17 AM
this is really weird....i just saw them at this small little teen center thing in the 'burbs.......but congrats to them

yeah, victory as a business has been signing tons of bands for a while now. they see who takes off, and then push them. whoever doesnt, just gets left behind. thing that sucks is victory takes the bands publishing, and then causes problems when/if the band wants move up. look at bands like boy sets, thursday, and taking back sunday. they all got screwed pretty hard in the end. and tony brummel has a history for bringing business to a new level of shitty.

on the other hand, some of their bands really succeed. look at hawthorne heights...they would be nothing without victory. same with things like aiden. victory started out from the bottom and has made its way to the top...regardless of how they went about doing it.

i, personally, wouldn't sign with victory as i have a desire for a carreer in music and not to be a flash-in-the-pan scene kid band. but thats not to say all of their bands are just that. and i played with four letter lie on tour...they seemed like cool guys. so, best of luck to them.

underoath didn't start this genre of music, anyone who knows anything knows that even your favorite band UnderOXath could be called rip offs. and dont try and tell me that you actually think that bands sit down and say, ok, what could we do to really try and pull off what underoath is doing. besides if you hear the new underoath, you are in for a surpirse. you can tell they toured with the bled.

cubz84
02/11/06, 11:06 AM
If any of you have actually read a real record contract, you'd see that bands dont just get "left behind" after a few months. Labels (especially Victory) put thousands and thousands of dollars toward their bands. Sure, some of it is recoups, but if they dont do anything for the band and no one buys the record, they dont get that money back anyway. Labels dont just sign bands for the shit of it. If Victory really is going down the shitter as some of you say, then the last thing they would be doing is signing any band that walks in.

And so what if they sound like Underoath.

Are you crazy? Bands get left behind all the time! If you don't deliver right away, most labels will stop investing in you and push you to the wayside while they concentrate on their artists that are having the most immediate success and bringing in the most money. It has nothing to do with "real record contracts" or whatever that means. I can name 10 bands off the top of my head that were abandoned by their labels for not selling enough records in the time right after their release.

i'm in no way arguing that victory doesn't fulfill their contractual statements. im sure they do give them money. what im arguing is that bands like hawthorne heights (who i guess just seem to be so damn catchy) and atreyu will get much more money (let's just use $10 for comparison sake) than a band like bayside or the junior varsity ($6) . sure, you can argue the "its all about business" spiel, but if a band like HH is doing relatively well on their own now that they've caught the eyes of fuse/mtv/so forth, while bayside is barely drawing a crowd on national tours... then why not invest more money and more time into the band that needs it more? maybe it sounds like a risk by turning your eye away from HH for a second, but cmon.

I must agree - it's sweet that MN bands are really taking off...

Small towns / declare this an emergency / motion city soundtrack / cue the doves / four letter lie / somerset / dropping daylight

I used to live in Hollywood - the music scene was never this cool when i lived there.

the reason they dont put more money into the other acts now that hawthorne heights is big on their own is cause they've already realized where the money is at... bayside and the junior varsity are very good bands... dont get me wrong... but they dont have that catchy "mtv appeal" that say HH or taking back sunday or any of their bigger bands had... im sure that if one of those bands came up with some really catchy new material... victory would throw a ton of money into it... sometimes a label will sign a band cause they see potential for maybe an excellent sophmore record.. cause in some cases a band has just too much talent to pass up... where on the other hand you might run into a band who is not very tight or established... but they just know how to make a hook... thats something you can sell right away... i guess what im trying to say is that just because you pump $$ into a band doesnt mean they will blow up, the "big money song" has to be there.

What most of you dont know is that people that like underoath are more than likely to hate their next album because they are going metal. So people will like what FLL puts out because its what they wish underoath would have done.

I'm happy for FLL and I love D-smith.
