Hey, there's Travel Channel, History, and VH1 threads, why not have a Food Network thread too!
Favorite shows:
Ace of Cakes - Some of the cakes they put together are incredible.
One of my favorites:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2134/3540387604_9d6ee468b0.jpg
The Next Food Network Star - I think this season I'm pulling for either Jeffrey or Jamika. Hated that Big Daddy won last season, but I'm glad Adam got his own show with Will Work for Food. Which leads me to...
Will Work For Food - It's an interesting concept, has probably been done before, but so what. I think Adam has a great personality and was pulling for him on The Next Food Network Star.
Food Network Challenge - I watch them mainly for the cake challenges, but I'll sit down and watch any of them. Kerry Vincent is such a bitch, and I love it...here's a great clip when contestants have to make a birthday cake for her.
Ztc6wy9aeB8
Unwrapped - http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=1103102
Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives - I really don't like Guy all that much, but I like the idea behind this show.
I'll watch Chopped and The Best Thing I Ever Ate, but they're not priorities.
Television personalities: Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay. I'll watch anything they're on. This includes Everyday Italian, Giada At Home, Throwdown, Iron Chef if Bobby's competing...

Best channel on television, by far. Just bought the second season of Triple D (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diners,_Drive-Ins_and_Dives) this morning, actually.

DDD is the only one I really watch regularly, but on Saturdays I'll usually catch some of the challenges in the afternoon. Also really like Throwdown RAISE YOUR FIST IN THE AIR, DRUG FREE.
Iron Chef is the best. Cat Cora always loses and for good reason.

06/24/09, 08:38 AM
The only thing I don't like about Triple D or any road show, is I always want to hit up the places they go to, but unless it's within 20 miles of me, I know there's a strong possibility of never making it to them...and then I get depressed.

God I love the Food Network. The Challenges are always my favorite, and I love Ace of Cakes.
Chopped reminds me of condensed versions of Quickfire Challenges from Top Chef, haha, which is why I kind of like it.

I love Food Network so much, it's probably over half of what I watch. I get SO addicted to the cake making challenges, Kerry Vincent is intimidating just to watch haha. Ace of Cakes is amazing too, I'd love to work there.
I tried to talk to my mom about how moderately pointless Kevin Brauch is on Iron Chef in comparison to how awesome Alton Brown is and she just looks at me and goes What? Who are you talking about? Sometimes I watch a little too much Food Network haha, I love it though. And I've started cooking more since I've started watching it, I never used to cook but now it's like all I want to do, it's good though.

Ugh she annoys me to no end, she always pulls the 'Well, I'm an artist and I'm more creative and further bullshit' card. And frankly her cake was total crap before she decided to burn it, that was just a really bad idea though.
Haha. Yes.
I feel like he's just there and says maybe two things then hey to the judges, so pointless.

When FN started getting overrun by all of the reality shows, challenges, and general gimmickry, they lost me as a regular viewer. I was a big fan of programs on which a knowledgeable cook simply demonstrated appealing recipes, like Food 911, Barefoot Contessa, Everyday Italian, and the original format of Tyler's Ultimate where Tyler Florence traveled to three different places to get a new perspective on a given dish, and then combined these approaches into his ideal version at his home kitchen. But now the channel might as well be TLC with how trendy it's become.

yeah, she's an idiot. if the challenge is about designing for a specific client, suck it up and do what the client wants! and she was so messy, it was disgusting!

Crazy cake girl (Stevie?) also made a cereal bridge for one of the challenges. It was supposed to stand upright (for some unknown reason), she couldn't get it to stand on it's own, so when it came time to judging she just dropped it, it broke, and she started laughing like a hyena. She's fucking nuts.

Yeah, the only thing he does is tell Alton what ingredients the chefs are working with. Then Alton takes it from there. I love Alton Brown by the way.

When she was being judged, she said something like she doesn't believe in the "customer is always right" philosophy. And I just thought she must not get any business then.

that was so dumb! i could tell from the second she started adding all that stuff off the side it would not stand upright, how could she not tell beforehand that was going to be the outcome? i think she just goes on these shows to act like a wacko.

me too, unless she's all about designing cakes as pieces of art and selling them... in which case she probably doesn't get much business either because her "art" is hideous.

She's someone I would never ever want to purchase a cake from. She's entertaining to watch, but oh do I wish she would go out of business.
I've been wanting to get something done by Jay (he was the winner of the birthday episode). He's nearby and actually seems competent. Well that's if I can't get anything done by Mr. Duff Goldman.. although he's quite expensive with a $1,000 base price.

Yeah his was very classy and he actually understood who he was making the cake for. I would spring for a Charm City Cake for my wedding since they're usually expensive, but that base price is probably for like one layer wrapped in fondant. I can't even imagine what some of the stuff they make goes for.

I didn't think he was the best cook, but I liked what he made, and he was incredibly hot. So, he was one of my favorites as well.
I was thinking Artie was perfect for the show, but Tom just keeps getting better (he seems so chill - like the guy you'd want to hang with, but one who can cook) and Herb's pilot seemed amazing, so while I was confident in Artie before, I now think it's anyone's game.

Watch that network while you're hungry, it's like porn.
Seeing as they announced on their official site about 6 weeks ago that Artie would win, it wasn't much of a surprise.
In keeping with their tradition of giving the runner-up who totally should have won his own show, Tom is getting one:
"In additional news about The Next Food Network Star, Food Network is excited to announce that runner – up Tom Pizzica will host the new primetime series Outrageous Food, premiering November 2010. Production begins today for this traveling food show featuring out – of – this – world eats."

Oh, I don't get on their website. They always go w/ the safe pick, anyway.
Also ... great news.
I don't actually watch the show, since I don't think it's very good. I did watch the season with Gertler and was glad he at least got a (short-lived) show. The guy got jerked, and is a better host than almost anyone on that network save for Alton.
