I had a feeling Cody and Aaron would be in here. Amazingly tough choice for me.

I'll go with Cody but Aaron is basically tied with him.

this x58. the most clever lyricist of the last two decades.

Dylan, then Yorke or Lennon

IceAge/HeatWave

Dylan, then Yorke or Lennon

all three are much better than those listed in the poll. i'd give oberst some props, but not on the same level as a lot of really prodigious lyric writers.

Voted Cody because I thought he'd be under appreciated, surprised that Aaron is in last place right now. There are obviously better options than the ones listed when you look at the big picture of songwriters, but I figure sticking to the names given would make the most sense. These are some of my favorites anyways, even though they might not be the "best."

I just chose my personal favorites with the other option to include those songwriters that others may consider as being more deserving.

Seriously all three of those are much better than those listed. But no, Dylan's voice is weird, and The Beatles are overrated and Radiohead is so BORING!

I sometimes hate the automatic Brand New bias that this site has. This is a good example of it. Conor Oberst is a great lyricist.

Pete Wentz doesn't get nearly enough credit for the lyric work in From Under The Cork Tree, that record was genius.

He certainly isn't the best lyricist ever, but yes, that IS a good record. One of my favorites of theirs by far. But I think the majority of songs Pete has written are really solid.
