View Full Version : Just a question

As we all know, our favorite bands, including Jefree Star, Millionaires, and Brokencyde will be at warped tour. I've never been to warped tour for many reasons including price, the heat in phoenix, and the fact that i'd be paying a lot to see a bunch of bands I really wouldn't go out of my way to see if they weren't at warped tour (minus about 3 each year).

How do these bands like Brokencyde survive these tours? I understand there is an unwritten standard for respecting preformers and audience members, but really? It's a good thing I'm not going because honestly, I would be throwing the biggest things I could find at these terrible musicians. Do people really keep their cool while watching these terrible preformers? I know you don't have to watch them, but I would definitely go into the crowd just to throw stuff, do people do this?

I know these are stupid questions, but in all serious I really am wondering.

For discussion: have you ever been disrespected at a show? one time I was at a show and some guy started grinding on my 13 year old sister. If he would have threw a punch after I pushed him off of her and told him to never touch her agian, I would have been in for a serious ass beating. It was ridiculous. Does anyone have some similar stories?

I hope it's fine that I posted this thread under this category, I've never posted a thread and didn't really know where else to put it

This topic is full of win.

But since I can't resist..

Mostly, people tend to stay away from music they don't like. Why waste time hurling feces at Brokencyde when you could be checking out new music (the BEST part of Warped Tour) or rocking out to your favorite bands? Life is too short to get consumed by hate. Most people tend to follow this.

Also, as far as fights at shows, I've only been in one: at Underoath, someone punched me in the face for "hitting on his girl" (no idea who or what this involved, but I didn't even talk to any girls that night). He then used a key to stab me. I promptly broke his nose, he got carried out. End of that. Fights at shows suck, you can get thrown out easily.. luckily no one ratted me out (the kid was being a huge dick to everyone and loved me for removing him).

I'll steer clear of Brokencyde, Millionaires, etc. I know there are definitely going to be some people who go into their crowds just to start shit. I'd consider it, but that would mean I'd have to stand through the torture of their performances. And that is something that no one should have to deal with.

I think everyone gets disrepected at shows. I've been screamed at, cursed at, shoved, and I've had my ass grabbed on more than one occasion. It sucks, but it happens. The worst was when a group of disgusting scene chicks (or dudes... I honestly could not tell) stood behind me and spent at least 30 minutes just grinding on me, jumping on me, pushing me, screaming in my ears, etc., just for the fun of it. I did absolutely nothing to provoke them. I tried to ignore it, but they wouln't stop; they probably thought they were hilarious. I eventually had my friend switch places with me because she knew that, if I stood there any longer, I would have turned and punched them all in the face. Of course, right fter I moved, they got out of the crowd.

this exact same thing happened to me two weeks ago at a show.

but back to the topic, the two people above me are right. don't waste your time watching them and just enjoy your time there. go see bands you want to see, find new bands, buy merch, try to meet bands, etc. wasting your time trying to start shit with other bands is something that could turn completely against you. just go, enjoy yourself, and don't worry about those said acts and their "fans."

A few thoughts

1) Don't EVER throw things at the stage, other people. Bottles, shoes, etc. can actually really hurt someone and, more times than not, you'll usually hit an innocent bystander than your desired target.

2) As mentioned above, it's really counterproductive to attend a band's set just to throw things at them. I'm not going to Warped Tour this year but for those who are, make an effort to check out bands you don't know if you have down time.

3) I used to be that asshole who shoved up front even if I got there late. I've mellowed out a bit since I've learned that it's becoming less and less socially acceptable the older I got so, yeah, I've had people make some nasty comments towards me. However, I generally don't encourage any kinds of violence. Chances are, both you and the other person will get kicked out which will make it a wasted night. Most people might look tough, but once you tell them to cut the shit they usually figure it out.

why would you pay 40 dollars to see bands that you spend your free time mocking when you could see a bunch of better bands?

Honestly, I've found it very easy to actually just walk through the crowd, at least for me it was cause most of the shows i was at a lot of people mainly were moshing/hardcore dancing. That, and they let me pass cause they're taller than me and can see easily over my head. haha.
