Great band, saw them on tour a few months ago. Debut album expected this year, already got 3 solid EP's under their belt.
RIYL: Fleet Foxes, Folk Music, Noah and The Whale.

Glad you like them, new album is produced by Markus Dravs (Arcade Fire, The Maccabees) so it's going to sound amazing, seriously cannot wait for it.

Oh, nice. I keep meaning to check out the Maccabees. I actually have their album (have had it for a while). Just never got around to checking it out. Perhaps I will once these two albums are over. I think I'll really like them based on what I've heard and read.
I bet I'll listen to the Mumford & Sons' EPs on repeat for a while, though. :-d

Haha, which Maccabees album is it? Wall Of Arms? If so, you need to get listening to it asap, Eda! Literally in my top of all time. Despite the fact I always narrow my eyes at people who say that about an album out in the past year, it seriously is a great album. Orlando is such a great vocalist, when you have search the thread I created for them and inject some life into it:-)

Jealous. Both of the band and Stephen Fry, shame you couldn't go.
Saw them support the Maccabees. Great stuff from what I remembered, but never really checked them out afterwards. The vocal harmonies were definitely a stand out from what I can recall.

I went to see that tour as well, what date you go to? I was at the Norwich one. I knew them before going to watch the gig but only from a few songs, came out of that blown away. One of my favourite live bands after seeing them from that gig.
Going to any October Maccabees dates?

The Cardiff date, since I go to uni there. To be honest, I haven't listened to them for a while so I'm not in a rush to see them again yet!

It seems everyone two weeks or so, some one makes this thread on here (guilty as charged!), but I'm glad because this band seriously fucking rules. One of my favorite records of the year. They're #50 on the Hype Machine top records of 2009 Zeitgeist. Good for them!
I skipped them last minute when they were in the states for CMJ, and I went to see a friend's band instead. It might be my most regretted decision of 2009.

I dislike Noah and The Whale but like these guys. It's like a British Fleet Foxes I guess but a little more "brooding". Just watch a couple of YouTube videos and see what you think.

I don't know, to me it sounds a little fake.
Yeah, I didn't get that review at all.
i feel like whoever reviewed the album wasn't even a fan of that type of music to begin with or something. it's annoying because they reviewed the Local Natives' new album and said it was great because there were vocal harmonies reminiscent of Fleet Foxes. But if these guys have vocal harmonies, they're just ripping Fleet Foxes off...To me the album seems honest and real, but whatever

Little Lion Man is sooooo goood! They came to minneapolis but it sold out in like an hour :(
Was just shown this band by a friend, and not even through my first listen of Sign No More I have to say this band sounds incredible.
Is this basically a copy off Frightened Rabbit?
That was the first thing to come to my mind when my friend played a song. They've got a different sound for sure, but any fan of folk music should definitely check it out.

I really like(d) Sigh No More, but it didn't have a lot of staying power for me. Still a great and easy-to-like folk band that I recommend everyone to check out.
They were the gateway band that led me to discover a few of the other gems from the London indie / folk scene such as Laura Marling, Johnny Flynn and Emmy The Great as well, and I'm quite happy about that :)
The Mumford and Sons song "After The Storm" was played at the end of Stargate Universe this week. It was quite fantastic. Check it out. It was great.

A friend of mine bought a large sum of tickets when they moved the venue and were selling more tickets. I got extremely lucky! Will probably have to miss my Monday classes because I'd rather take the Southshore up there than drive myself.

They are playing a special secret location, ticket winners only gig tonight in London for the BBC. It's being aired live on BBC Radio1 and live video streaming on the Radio 1 wesbite. You will be able to watch highlights after the gig as well. The Maccabees, Laura Marling and Bombay Bicycle Club are also playing. Words can't describe how bummed I am that I'm not there.

I would like to retract this statement. I have the album on my USB stick in my car, and it came on as I was driving tonight and I really reconnected with it. 02/15/11, 06:02 PM
On the two big topics:
1) Should have won best new artist (full disclosure: I've never heard Esperanza Spalding, but wouldn't bet on my opinion changing).
2) I thought it was bad enough that US mags/sites included Sigh No More in their 2010 lists, for the BRIT Awards to.....yesh.

07/03/11, 06:42 AM
It's the opposite for me now, absolutely loved them on first listen and when I saw them live in tiny venues over here they were so superb live, but with more listens and watching more live shows on TV recently from Glastonbury Festival etc. every song is the same structure and it just gets boring after a while.

Still love this band. Everyone hopping on the hate bandwagon doesn't phase me.
Kyle Huntington
07/03/11, 09:08 AM
I didn't realise there was a hate bandwagon for these guys at all, thought they were genuinely adored. From a personal standpoint I have just found myself tired of the songs and now notice how similar they all sound. They still kill it live and are sound guys, but I guess I've heard the lot of these songs for about 3 years now and when they started playing new material at recent shows, I didn't feel like it was much of a progress to keep me excited. Like I said, loved these fellas (hence my creation of this thread a fair while ago) and still enjoy aspects of them but I wanted something more to bring me back and hook me again.
