Death in the Park – Death in the Park
Record Label: End Sounds
Release Date: May 19, 2009

Death in the Park opens up with a strong guitar riff and a nice set of vocals to compliment it. Andy Jackson (ex-Hot Rod Circuit) does a fantastic job of handling lead vocals on this disc. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel by any means, but that’s not to say it doesn’t roll right along to the start of a solid EP. This EP has such a great flow to it that the “no gap between songs” feature is a must use when listening in iTunes. It’s a great listen the entire way through.

The song “Sway” has a lovely acoustic ending to it, where the strength of musicianship of Death in the Park is showcased. “Sway with me as we let the moon and skyline guide our way, I’ll search this whole town just for you.” It caps off the song beautifully and gives it the feel of a classic love song.

“Walk Away” features mandolin-esque fast-picked acoustic guitar, as well as a great synthesizer background. Neither one of these two instruments are overdone, which is a nice change of pace for music today. “Fallen” is definitely my favorite track off of this EP. There’s just something about acoustic tracks done correctly that tugs at my heart strings. The recognizable voice of Hayley Williams (Paramore) complements the lead vocals perfectly. The two harmonize in wonderful rhythm as the acoustic guitar belts in the background. The band does a great job using Hayley’s vocals to complement their own instead of just solely focusing on Hayley’s strong vocal range and making that the selling point.

I was pleasantly surprised by this EP. I had never heard of this band prior to receiving a trio of releases from End Sounds records, and I am now anxious to hear their full length that is due in the fall of 2009.

Not a big fan of the EP, like some songs, but I absolutely adore the cover art... I don't know why I just love how playful and silly it is.

Me too. I figured with only 5 songs, each would be mentioned. Especially since that's my favorite from it.

I enjoyed the EP. Not as much as I love HRC, but it's still a solid release.

generic. the song fallen really had no purpose in having Haley on it. They wasted her talent and brought her down to the bands level. Sorry but they need some serious work.
