Was anyone else as disappointed with AFI's new album as I was. It is so different from any of their albums. It wasn't a surprise because of the major label signing, but it's a bad sellout. Or do all of you kids like it?

I was disappointed. Sad to see a good band go to waste.

More selling out? Great, now there will be even more newbies complaining about even more bands.

Yeah. Even AOD wasn't that bad, but this album just isn't AFI.

I'm not a newbie. I was on here for awhile, but got banned... repeatedly.
I was just asking if anyone was disappointed. I didn't say "They suck, they sold out" so don't be a dick.

Your post just brought to my attention that there are going to a new wave of newbies that are not only going to be complaining about Blink 182, but AFI as well. So don't be a dick.

Fuck this, every AFI album sounds different. Every one is a progression of sound. This is stupid, do you know how bad it would suck if every band put out the same sounding album every time. It would suck, music would grow boring.

Andto the idiot above who had the stupidity to call afi sell outs, FUCK YOU, you dont have a fucking clue what a sellout is so shut the fuck up.

AFI didn't change there sound in any way when they signed to DreamWork, because sing the sorrow was already written and demoed before they left NITRO. and the only reason they left Nitro was because Nitro couldn't produce enough albums to meet demand.

I think that album is amazing. I think it's great that a band can evolve like AFI. They are doing what they want to do and are relying on their fans to stick with them. If you don't like it, I'm sure they assumed you wouldn't. It's not everyone's cup of tea-- I think the talent it displays is amazing though-- to assume a band like AFI is making records for money is a VERY ignorant assumption, though... so cool if you don't like the music they are putting out- but don't blame it on the label change... it's your lack of willingness to embrace something new... and that's not a bad thing. I'm like taht a lot with things... just not music.

No, it wouldn't suck. At all. There are many bands that have kept their sound and are still amazing.
They sold out, fucking face it. Just because you were into "punk" 2 months before the rest of your friends doesn't mean you are cool and know what you are talking about.
I don't give a fuck when they changed their sound. They changed it to a more melodic sound that is easily likeable. Cashing in on the "punk" trend? I think so.

Cashing in on the punk trend, what the fuck are you talking about. Both of there last albums, Art of drowning and Black Sails, sold up words of 100,000 copies each. Thats more then most bands sell in the recording careers.

As for this two month punk thing, I've personally spent the last 10 years of my life following "PUNK" music, and im not sure but i'd be willing to be thats alot longer then you. So fuck off. I've never tried to be cool by what i've said i say what i feel and know, unlike you who feels it makes them sound cool when they jump on the "sell out" band wagon or have to be mr. punk by hating ever band that signs to a major label. I've got news for you buddy there are very few indie labels that dont have some sort of ties to a major label.

I hate punk. I don't even like AFI. I don't even listen to anything on this site. I just bust balls. AFI changed their sound. It isn't what it used to be. Old fans SHOULD be disappointed. I am not jumping on any bandwagon. Their music has changed to a more agreeable style for the masses. To me, that is selling out.

If you dont like the music why are you on this site?

Second i've been a fan sense there second album, and im not disaponted with it at all. Now if this album had come out say following very proud of ya, i might have been disapionted, but only cause there would have been no warning or growth. But i've aged scene there 2nd album and so have they, a persons taste of music and what drives you to make it is different from when your 19 to when your 29.

I listen to pretty much everything. I did like AFI. My favorite bands are: Refused, Minor Threat, Alkaline Trio, Between the Buried and Me, Converge, and American Nightmare(Give Up the Ghost). None of these bands are discussed on this site. Alkaline trio, sometimes, but that's all.

That's because you probably didn't like them before this album came out. Therefore, your opinion means NOTHING. Not that it means anything anyway.

They havent changed thier sound much. Their music is much more a blend of their hardcore work and their newer soft stuff. The CD sounds alot like songs such as "Days of the Phoenix" off Art of Drowning.

The band has not sold out. This guy is just "too punk" to like a band signed to a major record label. The band drastically changed their song when they recorded Dark Sails..and no one called them sellouts then.

This is correct.

For everyone saying "it isn't AFI", shut the fuck up. They change with every album, even moreso when Jade joined.

On a related note, does anyone know why Alt Press hasn't reviewed this?
