Beautiful lady that's part of the Doomtree collective. Has one hell of a voice to boot.

The verse she drops on P.O.S.'s "Lowlight Lowlife" is maybe the best thing I've ever heard. She's brilliant.

Her False Hopes is my favorite, without a doubt. Can't wait until she drops a full length

I always thought she was better when assisting on other member's Doomtree songs. Still excited for this, though.

Love Stef; not too huge on Sims. Enjoyed his latest False Hopes, though.

I can see Sims being an acquired taste. His guest rhymes on P.O.S.'s "Lowlight Lowlife" are awesome though. I can never decide whether I think his verse on that song or Dessas is the best thing I've ever heard. Depends on the day.

Oh, I've followed Doomtree around for a longgg time now and Sims just doesn't do it for me as much as I'd like. And Dessa destroys that song.

Not a bad idea. Her other release is kind of a teaser EP. Def worth checking out though.

Love her album. Finally spent a lot of time with it. Get a bit of a Tracy Chapman vibe from her at times, when she really focuses on her singing vocals.

Yeah I have most of the Doomtree stuff but no Paper Tiger. I'll fix that very soon when cah flow increases a little.

Its weird how I just recently started listening to it. I've listened to Never Better dozens of times since it came out but I never realized that that individual song was accidentally unchecked on my itunes and never on my iPod. So its like i recently got a brand new POS song. And its absolutely fantastic, I love the way she delivers "melting down the bells"

And you were missing the best song on the record, too. Haha. And yeah that half-sing gives me shivers. Also the line "from all the corners cut, we got an avalanche of sawdust" is a favorite.

There isn't a moment of non-awesome on the whole song, though. I always walk around imitating SIMS's delivery of "They got that medicine to fix your mood 'til you learn to mind your place and eat that Sysco food."

Yeah its definitely at the top for me along with Purexed. Dont get me wrong I really liked the record when it came out but after revisiting it this week I realize I really love it. Who is the Russel she references in her verse? I feel like Im missing a really obvious reference

Not obvious, really. Haha. I made a thread to ask this exact question.

Just listened to the new POS record. The moment I first heard her Low Light, I needed to know who owned that awesome verse. Guess her name is Dessa. I'm checking out this Doomtree whatnot right away (and her record).

Really? Wow, so those lyrics are better than anything Springsteen, Dylan or Billy Joel ever penned? That's very high praise from you ha.

Anyway I bumped this thread because I couldn't find a thread for her new album, which is absolutely magnificent. The re-vamped version of Chaconne is beautiful. The production throughout the album is top-notch as well. She has such a lovely voice, without it being particularly technically strong. Reminds me a lot of Lauryn Hill.

Oh, and does anyone thinks she looks a bit, ahem, ethnic on the album cover. Kind of like the reverse Beyonce...
