I'm the only person i know that is not a fan of brand new, to me, all their songs are completely uncatchy, and all of their songs sound like demos, and even though one day i met the lead singer on a beach at the hamptons, they are just so overrated, sorry guys

yeah, personally, i love brand new. theres just something about what they do. i dont think of them as just "punk". they are very talented and have a flair for the mysterious.


some of the textures and sounds they make musically are astounding. i just think they are great.

but yes, overrated. too many people liking them for "jude law". lame.

IMO:

Brand New write some amazing songs, Jesse Lacey is a good songwriter. Very on the ball lyrically. Never complicated but very articulate.

However they also miss the mark sometimes (See Your Favourite Weapon). Deja Entedu was a good album but I do think they're overated.

These songs are good: The Shower Scene, Jude Law and a Semester Abroad, Failure by Design, Soco Amaretto Lime, Guernica, Sic Transit Gloria.

These songs are brilliant: Seventy Times Seven, The No Seatbelt Song, The Quiet Things No-One Ever Knows, Play Crack the Sky.

Everything else is average.

Like I said, my opinion.

i can see how you amy not like them. i initally could not stand their last album until is tarted reading interviews of jesse and others and realized theirs more to the songs then what some other bands put into their writting. the thing i like about bands like brand new and straylight run is that let the listener into their personal lives beyond just relationships with women and stuff. and its not really forceful on you, its kind of nicely written

ill agree with most of that but i think you ahve to look at each album as a different piece of work. allow the artist to evolve a little and brand new was one of those abnds that took a big leap inbetween albums but what i enjoyed was that they held most of their fans from their first full length to their second and got more fans who wern't fans of their first. and brand new is one of those abnds, for me, that no matter how big they get, i will always be front stage singing like a 12 year old girl. cause thats just the way im built...srry...
