He's going to announce it Thursday. Reports are conflicting on whether or not he'll stay on for the rest of the season.

steve alford was born to be the coach of iu. i don't see him leaving iowa though.

i say zeke leaves the knicks before getting fired and ends up head coach of the hoosiers.

i dunno, they might have enough decent wins in the middle to find the tourney, if they start wining out. But yeah, it'll be close.

I'd like to see Davis at Mizzou, I think he could make them slightly less mediocre, and with his subpar recruiting, they would never beat Kansas again

I mean, he seems like a nice guy, but how do you lose Oden from in state and lose one of the top 3 PF's who was dying to go to your school.

KU's and OSU's gain though

yeah, i don't see him getting another job. at least not anytime soon. his recruiting is horrible. i think he's a decent coach at best. i think he'd be a great assistant coach.

rumor has it, that when iu was in the national championship game a few years ago he sent out some feelers to other schools trying to get out of iu then, but even though he had them in the finals nobody was interested.

it's kinda sad, cause he does seem like a nice guy.

true, have him focus on training the players, he could be excellent at that. Or, perhaps at a small conference school where player development, not recruiting so much, is the key

alford apparently loves being an alum and indiana would be a dream job, but reportedly he hates the athletic director with a passion. but i could see him leaving, since so many seniors are leaving iowa after this season.

im indifferent to whether he stays or goes from iowa. i would be happy if they signed the UNI head coach.

i wouldn't leave if i was alford to take this job. I think he's got a great thing going in Iowa. no need to leave, in my opinion.
The worst thing mike davis did was lead indiana to the nat'l championship game in 2002, 'cause he HAD to take the job then at IU even if he didn't really want it. I don't think he's that great of a college coach, anyways.

I feel so bad for this guy, he had all the right opportunities, but alumni and fans just weren't having it.

Anybody think they'll persue Bobby Knight again, since Texas Tech isn't looking so bright lately?

no chance of knight coming back. him and indiana are not on good terms ..

i think alford will eventually leave iowa and take this job. it's one of the most lucrative positions in college basketball and who better to lead it than a bright, young alum?

I agree that Knight won't come back, no chance of that. But Alford should be happy at Iowa. He is gonna have a boom in recruiting, especially since one of his rivals in the Big 10, Indiana, is down right now. Also, he is the hottest program in the Big 10, he's getting a lot of good press. To leave and go to a school where expectations are very, very hight and they expect immediate success is kinda foolish considering where he is.

My guess, Indiana, meet Quinn Snyder....or not

he would be the fan's choice, but might not be the best choice.

i would go with Coach Few from Gonzaga, though that might be a longshot.

thing is, iowa wont be good at all next year. and our recruiting class for next year isnt looking that great. the only returning player that is decent is haluska.

on a year to year basis though, Indiana draws way more recruits than Iowa. Plus, look at the in state talent ..it doesnt really compare. Indiana is one of the few gold mines. Alford may very well opt for the security and less stressful atmosphere of Iowa, but something tells me he has that itch of being the next great Hoosier coach that he wants to scratch. I'm betting Indiana makes him an offer he can't refuse.

If Alford is coaching Indiana right now, they'd probably be saying hello to Greg Oden next year too. Instead, he's going to a rival.

i would have to say indiana can be a more stressful atmosphere than iowa. bloomington is a basketball town and iowa city is a football and wrestling town.

right. thats what i said. iowa would be far less stressful and he may stay for that and job security reasons.
