Thought this might be a useful thread for asking advice & experiences, as well as sharing what your major would be, where you hope to go to med-school & currently go, what specialty interests you, and fun things of that nature...

Myself: Majoring in microbiology & i'm interested in pathology, IM, and neurosurgery (all over the place, i know :x).. i go to csulb & aim to go to john hops. or ucla for med-school

useful link that lists specialties & avg. salary: http://www.aamc.org/students/cim/specialties.htm

i know there's gotta be someone else out there who feels my pain ;)

I'm going to kill you.

This time I did UW-Madison, Medical College of WI (Milwaukee) and University of MInnesota - Twin Cities.

G/l with the apps. I'd be happy to get into any med school really. Did you major in science?

boo low standard med schools! Not trying to be an ass but it's what the numbers say.

I go to SUNY Stony Brook...I'm only a soph so I dunno what med schools I wanna apply to. Most likely all the NY/NJ med schools...my undergrad school actually has a med school and it's cool cause you can actually get to know some guys who are on the med school admin board.

my major right now is set to biochemistry...I'm thinking of switching to pharmacology though. The program is harder and more respected. Plus, less pre-meds do it and in case I switch mindset, I can still find good work.

?

I'm applying to the schools in my area. I already applied to them before, along with 5 others in Iowa and Illinois. It just isn't worth it to do that many again.
word, they get so expensive. If you look at the standards for schools in more popular areas as opposed to schools in the midwest...the schools in cities have much harder standards...like to get into any med school around here...you can't have an mcat lower than 29. and even that is pushing the low end of the average.

Definately, but at the same time it's kind of shocking & depressing when looking at the med schools you really want to go to & the scores of those reject :p. Guess it also motivates me to work harder as a student (only at a 3.7 gpa right now). There's also a big message board community as well that I can post the link for if you're interested.

i'm just going to give a piece of advice: don't take the mcat if you can't give preparation your utmost attention. it's better to have one lame summer of studying than having to retake the test &/or get shitty grades in your classes. oh, & if anyone's interested, i have some practice tests & other materials from kaplan.

I'm already applying to med school for the second time.
good luck! i applaud you for gaoing through it again.

just goes to show that numbers aren't everything- you have to be more than a gpa & mcat score. "only a 3.7"!? only a pre-med would ever say that.
