One of Jack's first shows was at this last year. Not bad for being free.
Hhahaha wait, Morningwood is playing. Good call on not putting that on the flyer.

I'm a bit suprised River City High isn't on this. They won that Dew Circuit thing last year.
Am I mistaken or is SXSW mostly 18+?
its an industry trade show..$575 a ticket
probably not to many kids there

its sorta hard to explain how SXSW works...but i will try my best:
for the most part, most of the showcases featuring bands that aren't huge are free. the people with those $600 industry passes get into the venue first, then after everyone with those passes are let in, the rest of the crowd is allowed in until the venue is filled to capacity. and as for the person asking about the 18 and up shows, it depends on the venue. i know some of the venues are 21 and up only, and there is a killer free showcase going on there with municipal waste and tons of other bands that i can't get into.
now if you have to pay to get into the showcases for the bigger bands, then the people with the passes get in free, and the rest of the people have to pay to get in.

Yeah the industry passes are worthless, most shows you can get into for free if you are old enough. The Equal Vision showcase was free last year, Tooth And Nail was free if you got there early enough to be in the place before they start charging admission.

Sherwin's right, sorta. All official SXSW showcases aren't free. You will pay between 10-25+ dollars to get into each sxsw showcase, and they run wednesday -saturday nights from 8pm-2am. During the afternoons other organizations (flower booking, mountain dew, adult swim, etc etc) put on "showcases" of bands that are usually free. Usually a band will play a showcase one night and then the next afternoon play again. This isnt true for people like David Bowie or whatever, but bands that are talked about on this site are usually down with the free shows. Those bands usually play free shows that are all ages
The way the ticketing works is simple. At 7 or 7:30pm, the venues open and all people with SXSW badges get in first. This is a 600 dollar badge usually reserved for industry. Anyone can buy them, but most people don't. After the badges get in, people in line with a local SXSW wristband get in. There are 4000 of these sold, at 130/each for the first 2000 and the next 200 at 150/each. Again, you usually have to be from Austin to get one of these, or have a friend buy one. They sell out within hours of them going on sale, and the lines are huge. Cash/Credit card only. After that, paying customers get in. When a venue fills to it's capacity, no one is let in. Then, as each person leaves one more is let in using the priority above.
So yeah, Clap your hands say yeah? If you're not there in line at 8pm, you probably wont get in, as the people hopping showcases with their badges will get in first. IT just depends. Also, a lot of places are converted into venues, so their capacities arent huge.

Yeah, I've been to it twice, and we never invested in the official badges or passes. Last year we lucked out and a couple of people on our elevator at our hotel hooked us up with some free wrist bands. But anyways, the way to go for anyone is to pay the cover charge every night, because in reality you usually only go to one bar a night for the music (atleast thats all we do.) The day shows are always free, and in the last two years have been pretty solid. The Take Action Tour daytime showcase at Emo's last year was great, I also went to this La Zona Rosa show last year.

Haha, I went to that Tooth And Nail showcase, and did the exact same thing. It was free.

I encourage people to use sxsw as not as a way to see the same bands at the same venues, but to take advantage of trying new stuff that you normally wouldn't. There's such an opportunity to see smaller bands from all over the world that it seems sorta silly to see Hawthorne Heights at Emos when they'll be there again in 2 months.

This year will be sick cause there is a lot of grind, and other sweet less known bands. An Albatross, Akimbo, Genghis Tron, Great Redneck Hope, and so much more.
