our regular price is about $5-6
pinkjinx87
02/16/06, 12:36 PM
Well I guess it depends on which place you go to. We have our cheap theaters, which are about $4. But they show all the older movies.
Shatter590
02/16/06, 12:45 PM
its a city thing. all the theatres in NY average $9-$11. There are a few cheap ones that show first run movies, but they tend to be very...um...shitty. like the one by my house. but saving $6 is worth it
pinkjinx87
02/16/06, 12:47 PM
Yeah..but it's getting more expensive here too. More people are moving down here so the prices are getting higher.
Shatter590
02/16/06, 12:49 PM
right now it can be cheaper to just get the dvd than see the movie. in fact, if more than 2 of us want to see it, we just wait for the dvd, but it and do illegal things with it to save cash
pinkjinx87
02/16/06, 12:52 PM
That's the way to go.

No movie is worth $9 to see, period. That's a rip-off. But brokeback is a good movie (my personal favorite of the year. See signature), and you should see it, but wait for it on DVD or go to a matinee.

It is not worth seeing in my opinion.
It's a bit slow in the begining. I'd rather a bit of that to have been cut out. I wouldn't give awards to those portraying such a choice of lifestyle. In which they didn't receive props. It most definately isn't worth $9. If I had to pay that much to see a movie, it should include FREE snacks.

And Crash was not the best movie of 05 at all for Ludacris's performance alone.

thank you!! he almost single-handedly ruined the movie. or should i say Paul Haggis' heavy-handed rascism sprawl of screenplay nearly ruined the movie. the performances were incredible, and so were several other things, but this was not the best picture of the year.
Brokeback Mountain is a wonderful movie, with rich performances and a beautiful camera eye. it is very candid, but i went knowing what to expect. of course not. the material is handled well, and the screenplay was very well developed. is it untouchable? is it the best film of the year. no i don't think so. but it is certainly a good story, and a great drama. Ang Lee is barnone, the most versatile and talented director in the business. his eye and his vision is so incredible and so unique. he's literally capable of anything.

There wouldn't have been a point to the movie without that.........Racisim and how it crosses ever fabric of the nation was the whole concept of the movie.
Though i'll give you it wasn't the best movie of the year.

probably Cinderella Man
with History Of Violence not too far behind. i need to see Munich again, it may have even more incredible then i thought it was at first. mix Crash somewhere in there.

ugh, that's because Million Dollar baby was a dissapointment.
this is a boxing film through and through. i guess you could also call it a human drama as well. i could go on for hours on Million Dollar Baby. Cinderella Man is a stellar piece of filmmaking. not too mention that Ron Howard does an incredible job filming those boxing sequences. there is one subplot about Hooverville that is a little needless, but altogether i can't imagine why anybody would hate this movie. the performances are ten times better. instead of Freeman and Eastwood sleepwalking through there roles. Bierko, Crowe, Giamitti, even Zelwegger are first rate.

wtf? people are ripping on Brokeback, Million Dollar Baby and Crash, which are probably 3 of the best pieces of filmmaking in years and are all critically acclaimed. anyone who thinks brokeback is "pointless" or crash is "racist" needs to examine themselves and there purpose in life. i can't think of two more important screenplays to come out this year.
i hope you people arent the kind who contribute to white girls and big momma's house being the #1 movie in the country at one time or another.

i haven't seen munich but it looks great. anyway, we could debate for hours and hours about the best films of certain era's, the point is ....they all had an important message behind them. they contribute not only to the world of filmmaking, but to society as a whole. not many movies can do that. for someone to say they are overrated, i'd argue that they are really missing the role of these films in the big picture.
