What do you think of what has been happening in San Francisco over the past few days?

Over a 1,400 arrested on thursday and 80 to 100 arrested on Friday.

Protesters stalled firefighters trying to respond to emergencies. Firefighters and police used bolt cutters on protesters who had locked their arms together in metal sleeves.

Protesters blocked intersections, scuffled with police, broke windows and heaved newspaper racks and debris into streets. Some hurled rocks at commuter trains, briefly halting service at a station across the Bay in Oakland.

"This is the largest number of arrests we've made in one day and the largest demonstration in terms of disruption that I've seen," Assistant Police Chief Alex Fagan Sr., a 30-year department veteran, told the San Francisco Chronicle

Roughly 1,500 of the police department's 2,300 officers were on street duty, the Chronicle reported, costing the city $500,000 in police overtime.

What do you guys (and wemyn, for you zach) think about this, do you feel there misinformed and doing nothing but hurting there cause and turning even those against the war against them? Or do you think these are positive actions that will help spread the cause of peace and appeasement.

Also i dont know if you guys (wemyn) watch the news but did anyone else notice that many of the protesters in SF were holding Iraq flags. Does this mean there pro-Saddum or pro-genicide or pro-mass murder or anti-kurd?

One more, how are these guys able to protest every day? Don't any of them have jobs, or are they all just burdens to the state? Living off of the welfare programs of the GOVERNMENT they seem to hate so much.

They dont all hate the government. They just disagree with it. And believe it or not, some people will skip a day at the office to protest something they believe in. Its called conviction, Try some you might like it.

And I wish you conservatives wouldnt have an anurism every time you hear the word WELFARE. There are more important things than money... and believe it or not your tax dollars aren't the center of the universe. You wnat to save some dough? Total disarmament. Do you have any idea how much $$$ is spent paying the military, and on weapons research, testing, development, and repair?

I really think its sad that 1/6th of America's children live in poverty and that 4,000 people starve to death every hour, yet we spend all this money finding new ways to kill people.

Actually i do, i help out with those issuse that are important to me, but when i do i dont go around spiting on those that disagree with me, destroy peoples property, cause crimes, disrupt traffic, impose myself on to the lives of others, or cause high financial distruction on a city, state, or country, so fuck off stupid idiot. Also for your info i wouldn't necessary call my self a conservative anymore, but even if i was, it sure bets being a token media liberal like yourself.

All of that was legit, but the last part was way out of line. The media liberal are WAY more conservative then I am. They are more interested in votes than what they do with their power.

Example - Tom Daschle. Anti-war at the start. Anti-war now. But when November rolled around he votes for Bush's resolution because the folks back home might not re-elect him. I hate politicians.

Welfare gives money to people who don't earn it and subverts capitalism. Weapons research is necessary to establish the soverignty and security of our nation. We need the military to protect our nation and our contitution that allows people like you to protest. Without military, we would be under the rule of some militaristic dictatorship, such as Nazi Germany or Circa WWII Japan.

Right, communist web sites. That's a great source. Nonetheless, assuming that 1/6 of children live in poverty, that doesn't mean that we should give all the poor free handouts. That's what jobs are for. People get what they work for.

they endanger public safety and should be punished, there are other way to protest and other ways to get your point across.

As I have said before, peacefull protest is fine, and civil disobeadence can be very effective, but there are times when it is taken too far. When protests turn violent, and when civil disobedience becomes an excuse to cause trouble, It dosn't do much for the cause.

How does it make you feel that these "people" in SF call them selves Anarchist and that this is the impression the world gets of anarchists.

Well firstly only some claim to be anarchists. Second, it bothers me a bit, but i'm used to anarchism reciving a negative image. Yeah, I'm pissed off cuz it pushed back our progress a bit, but I don't think immidiate anarchy is possible anyway. I do my best to represent anarchy positivly and i think that is more important.

Dashel is an evil man who is only looking out for himself. If that means supporting affirmative action, even though unjust, he'll do it. If it means supporting abortion, unjust again, hell do it. Smart man, but evil

They have every right to say what they feel, but damn they are going about it ALL wrong. And the war is already happening, the protesting isn't going to stop anything now. What these people need to do now is support the troops over in Iraq and hope that they come home safely.

communism is insane. it has never worked. capitalism on the other hand is very succesful. so thats like saying in the bottom of the ninth with a 3 run lead bases loaded and you have to choose a pitcher to pitch, are you going to rely on the guy who has a 1.0 ERA and has won many awards due to his spectacular pitching or some lard ass with a 32.6 ERA and has been playing AA ball for most of his life? I dont know if that made any sense, but I think you may have the point. Capitalism is a more reliable source because it worked. Communism is full of rebels and revolters who are too lazy to work
