I'm know there are a lot more that I can't think of right now. And I know half of you will say Weezer, but I don't want to start another Blue vs. Pinkerton debate;-)

Seeing as how they've only released 2 albums, I wouldn't say their first being better was that special. It's either it or that. Know what I mean?
As for me I'd have to say Children of Bodom. Also, Bloc Party, not to say that their later and latest works aren't great, it's just that I don't think that they'll ever top Silent Alarm.

All bands like this. They have nothing original to say, and it all gets stale after the first record. Maybe they came up with some hooks that Hanson would be jealous of on their debut, but by the time the sophomore disc comes out, they have no ideas and no talent to try anything else.
Even worse, their label might convince them they need to 'mature' or 'expand their sound', and you get a pile of crap like that Forgive Durden musical.
Bottom line, there are a million of bands like this, and I have even obliged some in the past. There are still plenty of kids doing the same thing now and you will always hear the chorus of 'but I love their debut'.
I'd like to add Raekwon and AZ to this list

Honestly, I think the reason why so many bad bands are mentioned in a thread like this is because of two main factors:
1. Not being able to grow and expand one's sound is just the typical nature of a talentless band. I tried to seriously think of a band I listen to actively that I don't think has grown for the better in some way since their debut and I couldn't think of one.
2. The "scene" loves a new band. For a band like Taking Back Sunday, I see no quality difference between Tell All Your Friends and Louder Now. They're both pretty sloppy records but once something isn't new anymore in the scene, it's time to move on to something else, and that applies to both bands the scene loves and ones they hate (notice how every few months, AP's most hated band changes).

I cant think of any to be honest, scrolling through my albums and most of my favourites are 2nd or 3rd albums. Too often the first album doesn't completely "make sense" or the production/recording quality is shitty or whatever.

i'd have to agree that this is the case for all the bands you quoted, except MCS. i thought Commit This To Memory was a great album.
and Razia's Shadow was a lot better than Wonderland, imo. i don't think it was as groundbreaking as some people made it out to be, but still a lot more original and well thought out than most of the generic crap that's out there right now... especially considering the fact that they are an FBR band.

i'd have to agree that this is the case for all the bands you quoted, except MCS. i thought Commit This To Memory was a great album.
Well, it was a blanket statement. I was, for the most part, just quoting at random from the first page. I do feel that statement applies to MCS, but you may disagree.
and Razia's Shadow was a lot better than Wonderland, imo. i don't think it was as groundbreaking as some people made it out to be, but still a lot more original and well thought out than most of the generic crap that's out there right now... especially considering the fact that they are an FBR band.
I thought it was terrible. That band is the generic crap that is out there right now. Again, you may disagree, and I don't want to invalidate my point based on a few specific examples that may cause squabbling.
It's quite humorous that the same kind of bands continue to be mentioned. I just feel bad that people had expectations from them outside of their debut album in the first place.
