I really only want to see Valencia tonight (unless there's any other good bands on that lineup I'm missing out on..?). I gotta call Knitting Factory and see when they go on.

Hey, I think your show is actually at the Highline Ballroom (not Knitting Factory) and the openers are Cash Cash, Sparks The Rescue, Phone Calls From Home (also the show seems to be co-headlined by Every Avenue and Valencia).
Highline is on West 16th street between 9th and 10th avenue (take the A-C or E down to 14th st) and walk one block over. The Knitting Factory recently closed so I think they must have moved this show. Hope this helps.

Hmm, holy fuck, what happened to KF? That place was legendary.
Thanks for the headsup, not sure how I missed all this.

Closed and is moving to Brooklyn (probably a dispute with a landlord or the increasing rent that the area it's located in is currently seeing).

Yea, I had heard that, but then I heard they wanted to keep the current location open too. I work around the corner, it was a great place because you could go in, get the set times, go out for food (albeit there being none for five blocks after 6PM), and head back in.
I really hope the Brooklyn one is no barrier and keeps stage diving. I've seen some great hardcore bands there and it is a punk rock venue at its best. Interestingly I've also seen some extremely popular pop bands (Paramore, for example) start there, too.

I heard they won't be letting people who type in all lower-case in.

Yeah, it can be exhausting just keeping up with all the shows here.
However, Indi looks like it gets its fair share (http://www.pollstar.com/resultsCity.aspx?ID=29490&SortBy=Date&SearchBy=Indianapolis).

I was going to if I won tickets through their facebook giveaway. I wanted to write them up for my site (http://intunemusiconline.com), as I've already touched on Valencia and I enjoy expanding.

this is a great idea, there are countless small venues in the city that are thankfully not represented by ticketmaster or live nation, i try to support and go to as many Bowery Presents shows as i can

July 14th - The Audition & The Higher at Highline
My first trip to Highline Ballroom -- the sound was awful. Good venue in theory (small space, upstairs, bar, table area, HAND STAMP RE-ENTRY!!) but the bands sounded awful. Maybe it was the ten minute set-changes, but Valencia just sounded like a wall of unmixed sound.
Also, throwing it out there, if anyone is going to the Brand New show in NYC, and has an extra ticket, I would love to join. I'd buy you drinks if you'd sell your ticket to me. I'm going to be free that day. Philly may also work :)

I'll be at mewithoutYou at Bowery Ballroom on the 10th and Brand New at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on the 11th. Unfortunately, due to the train not being exactly cheap, there's a need to be picky.

If you can manage it, I'd suggest making sure you're checking the brand_new community on Livejournal for the few weeks leading up to the show and seeing if you can hang around the venue area before the show and asking around. The last time Brand New (well kind of, the will call-only Jesse Lacey/Kevin Devine show in November) did something like this, a ton of people had tickets to get rid of last minute.

Unfortunately I do not have an extra ticket though, if I could find a way to transfer the name it's under, we might be able to talk (on the fence about going, have a birthday party I want to go to but the show should get out early enough). If you end up making it, let me know.
Also, I know you asked earlier about bars around venues and, while I am a nerd and don't really drink when I go to shows, I know of a few places (or ideas at least)
Belmont Lounge (near Irving Plaza) - 117 E 15th St
There's a ton near Bowery Ballroom if you just walk a little West into SoHo.
Roseland is in Midtown on 52nd st so if you walk over to 8th (or 9th avenue) you'll be able to find some great drinking spots (I don't remember any by name but I know they're there, I used to live in that area)
Hammerstein is on 34th and 8th, so you can go to Stout, which is on 33rd and 7th I believe. It's kind of known as the official pre-game place before big events at MSG.
Good luck finding a place to drink near Terminal 5 (that shit is SOOOO far West).
I'll update this after a little more research

Hey, thanks for keeping me in mind. Hope you can go, though. BN is good and can be really good live, even if they are way overhyped as the second coming of Christ by AP.net kiddies.

Great idea for a thread! I went to Valencia last week, too. I enjoyed their set, although I can't say the same for the 3 bands preceding them.
My upcoming shows are:
8/25 Blink-182/Weezer/TBS (Jones Beach)
8/29 TBS w/ Envy on the Coast (Bay Stage at Jones Beach)
Possibly- 8/14 Socratic (Vibe Lounge)
Information regarding the TBS headlining show: http://www.takingbacksunday.com/news/2009/07/02/long-island-show-announced
Also, I'd like to go see Cobra Starship 8/27 at the Crazy Donkey. I know they get a lot of crap on this site, but I was wondering if anyone is going to this (who isn't still in 10th grade)? I know the chances of finding someone fitting that criteria are slim...
And for anyone who is interested, Houston Calls' final show is 8/29 at the School of Rock in Hackensack, NJ (not technically NY, but still). I would love to go to this, but I'm moving into my apartment at school that day.
Interesting. That's the same night as Paper Route @ Mercury Lounge though (which I'll be at).
I've see Paper Route, and I was less-than-impressed. I recall their drummer to be the only bright spot in a boring act filled with spacey guitars and boring vocals.

Yes, Valencia was good -- their set was way too short (six songs?) and the sound was awful. Every Avenue was surprisingly better than I expected, and from what I caught of Cash Cash they were atrocious.

Ah really? I like the album a lot. It's co-headlining with Audrye Sessions (a band that clearly listened to Radiohead's "The Bends" WAY too much but still listenable).
On another note, I'm actually debating making the trek out to see All Time Low at the Bay Stage, seeing as for some reason I can't stop listening to their new album. You think it's worth it?

So I'm gonna totally embarrass myself with this next post, but whatever.
I can't stand pretty much all the neon bands yet I somehow have always appreciated the underlying sarcasm and satire Cobra Starship displays. The show at the Crazy Donkey will probably be fun but I can't justify spending money on the ticket, the train fare from Manhattan and the shitty opening bands to go to that.
As for TBS, that's the same day as the Blue October/Switchfoot/Ours show so I'm trying to make up my mind about that one.

I saw them at Bamboozle--they're definitely competent live. I don't like the new CD, or any of their old stuff, so I wouldn't go.. but if you do, then I'm guessing you'll like it. Plenty of girls for you, too, I guess, haha.

Yeah, I don't think I can justify it, seeing as I'll be myself and I'll have to suffer through We The Kings (though I do like Cartel). Plus the train fare plus LiveNation ticket fees make this all-in-all a $60 venture.

I know, Valencia's set was way too short. My friend had an extra ticket for the headlining Philly show the next day, and I considered going for a minute, but I knew calling out of work a second day wouldn't be wise.
And yes, Cash Cash was absolutely horrible. My friend and I just stood there, not moving, staring at each other in confusion as everyone jumped up and down around us. It was one of the most horrible experiences of my life.

I'm selling it for exactly what I paid from Ticketmaster ($55) if anyone is interested, I do not endorse scalping by any means.
Hit me up here or on AIM (acax1985)

Damn, I totally forgot this show was tonight (thought it was tomorrow for some reason). Good thing I saw your post, I was actually planning on going to Jet tonight and Offspring tomorrow. Thanks!
I'm heading to the show in a little bit, if anyone wants to meet up and/or needs a ticket let me know.
The Offspring were the first band I loved, and thanks to an older friend, I grew up with Smash when the rest of my ten year old peers were rocking Lion King backpacks and Backstreet Boys tapes. It really shaped me as a kid, and I'm so thankful for this band. So fucking excited to see them again, I didn't peak at any setlists, but I hope they throw in 5+ songs from Smash/Ixnay. For $50, they better.

Music Hall is a little smaller than Irving but you'll have to travel to Brooklyn. Music Hall is about 550 capacity and Irving is around 1100. If you work in Manhattan, I would just go to Irving.

I don't mind going to BK. I'm sure it's not far from a Subway.. I'd rather see the small show.
Tickets don't go on sale for a little bit, I'll need some discipline to hold out though, haha.
I hope this All the Day Holiday/Moving Mountains show comes to NYC. I'm going to say this tour will go down in "scene history" as being as epic as Thursday/Thrice/Coheed in four or five years. The two bands are just great.

Best thing to do is for me to send you their albums on AIM or something; MySpace doesn't do them justice as they're not a band who is suited to singles or 96kbps mp3s.
If anyone has 2 extras to Green Day (either night), let me know.. after all the hype and praise for their recent live act (and a drunk night with Dookie the other day), I decided I want to go :)

I'd like to.. it's not sold out, but $55 is a bit much. It's a Sunday, too, which sort of sucks.. I'd prefer to hop over after work, not make a day out of it.

I know the question wasn't directed at me but I'll be there. Here's a question for some of the older folks:
Do you still shove up front will all the kids and endure crowd surfing, getting kicked in the face, people running into you or have you mellowed and hang in the back with a cold one doing the one-finger point in the sky to your figure songs?
Also, Rise Against really does have a habit of being on great bills (and they all seem to come to Roseland for some reason):
in Nov of '06 I saw them co-headline with Thursday and Circa Survive and Billy Talent were support. This past fall was the tour with Alkaline Trio/Thrice and Gaslight Anthem and, once again, they're on a great bill this summer.

I haven't fought to a barricade since I was dating a girl who felt it was essential to do so for all shows. I guess I was 21 when I stopped.. but I wouldn't be opposed. Thing is, if I'm not ON the barricade then the front is miserable..so I tend to stick around the pits. It's nice to still kick out the jams in a pit for some of my favorite heavy songs, but then I usually back up and stand on the outside. It's the best for view (no one in front of you) and space.
Also,
Rise Against certainly gets on great bills. Their less-than-stellar live show at Bamboozle and less-than-stellar new album are the only reasons I didn't shell out the cash. If this was 2003, I'd already have tickets. Fun fact, Rise Against was first opener for a show at CBGBs in 2002 I think.
You mentioned great bands they toured with, but they've also stopped by Philly/NYC with Against Me, Bad Religion, Anti-Flag, (old) Taking Back Sunday, Tiger Army, Coheed and Cambria, and some others I'm sure I'm forgetting over the last decade.

Good points. I can't really mosh (I take things too personally so if someone came and pushed me from behind I'd probably want to kill them, so I just stay way) but I like being close and seeing all the action. As I've grown older, I've realized that it just gets creepier and creepier each passing year if there's somebody who's 3-4 years older than everyone up front. Particularly when some young girl is trying to muscle me out of my spot.
Regarding RA, I went to school in Central NY so I missed out on a lot of great tours. That said, I didn't really get into them until late 04/early 05 (a bit late). With most of the "scene" bands, I kind of had to let my taste expand a bit for I could appreciate them. A great example is Coheed & Cambria. I first saw them open for The Juliana Theory in 2002 at the Birch Hill Nightclub (remember that place?) The whole idea of a dude with a big afro singing high-pitch Rush-style vocals seemed absurd to me. It wasn't until their next release that I was really finally able to appreciate them and go back and appreciate their first album.
Going back to Rise Against, I actually dig the new album. Overall, it's not as consistent as their others but there are some GREAT tracks on their (particularly "Savior" and "The Dirt Whispered").
GA of course.
Nice, how much did GA run you at face?
I guess I could sit if I had to.. I did buy lawn tickets for TBS/Weezer/blink. And Green Day isn't really a band I want to dance to.

I think it was $49.50 + charges, came out to about $57/ticket. Not bad at all considering it's an arena show and much less than those dorks in Blink-182 are charging.

I will be there. RA and Rancid are easily two of my favorite bands. I haven't seen RA since 04 when they opened for Bad Religion in 04 and Rancid at Warped 03. I had RA tickets to the Houston show with gaslight/alk3/thrice but they cancelled due to Tims voice. Needless to say, I think it's due time to see them.
I wasn't too impressed with RA's last album but I've loved everything before that. Based on the setlists I've seen posted on here, the songs they play from the new album are songs I like anyways. Should be fun.

Blink 182/Weezer/TBS - 8/26 - PNC
U2/Muse - 9/24 - Giants Stadium
If you find a Green Day ticket at a decent price then get it. They aren't my favorite band but they are easily my favorite live band. Ive seen them in a 1,000 seater and a 20,000 seater. Both time were awe-inspiring. Billie Joe is easily the best front man I've ever seen and can command any audiences attention.

This is the year that I finally hang up the Warped Tour for good. Nothing against it as I still think it's a great bargain and a really cool way to get people exposed to new bands. Just, this year there's very few acts I'm interested in (LTJ, Bad Religion, Innerpartysystem) to trek out to Long Island and stand in the sun by myself all day.

I like Cursive but am not a huge fan. Have had a few of their albums on my ipod for years and I should probably really start listening to them.
I'll actually be out of town tomorrow night but we'll try to hang at one of the upcoming other shows. I'm assuming it's at Maxwells? Never been to that place, was always curious to check it out.

Haha, I swear I saw this. Not sure what the deal is, I think it was supposed to go on sale 8/14. Maybe they just jumped the gun a bit?
Anyone know the presale for The Gaslight Anthem? It says "radio presale" for the Terminal 5 date........

For real. I'll see you there. Gonna be a great show.
Also, if you ever want to save on service fees, you can pick tickets up at the Mercury Lounge box office.
Don't forget Thursday goes on sale tomorrow (or, if you have an AmEx card you can buy them now on pre-sale).
Also,
Highline Ballroom has an "Evening with Andrew McMahon" scheduled for 10/12. Tickets on sale on 8/14 @ noon.
It's times like this when I wish I didn't go away to school. I'm praying they move this to a Friday or Saturday so I can go.
Thursday tickets are on sale for Philly and NYC. Get 'em, each venue is 500 or less.

I will have an extra ticket to the Cobra Starship show in Farmingdale on 8/27. I won't be able to send/give it to you beforehand since my tickets are will-call, so I guess you'd have to wait online with me or something? Let me know if you're interested.

Show starts at 6 but I believe there are 4 openers so....you could probably catch Thursday and watch a good portion of the game (pending you don't care about any of the openers).
Also, for Say Anything fans, there are apparently TWO NYC dates coming up. 11/3 @ Irving Plaza and 11/4 @ Highline. Moneen is also on the bill.

Click on "exclusive pre-order" and put in your email, name, etc.

This whole Blink 182 tour seems like just a huge CASH GRAB from the band and their management. VIP packages for nearly $300? Yeah, real "punk rock" of those guys. I totally understand that when you play big venues with corporate sponsors and what not, it's going to more expensive than going to your local ballroom/club and I understand that. I recognize the cost. However, hording the best seats in the house for your richest fans seems unfair.

Some songs they really do have a generic sound on, but they're better than a lot of pop punk bands out there today.

It's interesting, I always find myself disagreeing with people about BLG. I have nothing against the band, I just think that songs aren't that strong. So many bands have sharper hooks than those guys so I always surprised that they were as big as they were.

It's interesting, I always find myself disagreeing with people about BLG
I think the first half of their album is really, really strong. It's [whatever-style-genre-you-want-to-call-it (polished punk-pop?)] done at its best, IMO. The only competition in the genre comes from Cartel, Fall Out Boy, and (old) Panic at the Disco.. unless I'm forgetting someone. I wouldn't put ATL up there, speaking in album-terms.
-ACA
Also, can this All Time Low tour really fill Hammerstein Ballroom? Really?
If this is the new boy-band, then it's really not that bad.
I think we were real spoiled for awhile when good music was popular. For all the awful "emo" (term used for familiarity, not for its correct use) bands we endured--stuff like The Used--we did see some great bands sell out big arenas. In 2003 Thursday/Thrice combo tour sold out Roseland. In 2009, Thursday still hasn't sold out Bowery. Times changed.. I think we were spoiled and it's going to negatively affect the way we look at these bands now.
Thursday touring on 500-person clubs is seen as a "downgrade" for them, but in reality, I think it's where they should have been all along. They happened to stumble through an era of their genre being popular, but that's the exception, not the rule.

Yeah, for some reason I thought the Thursday show would sell out so I bought a ticket on Ticketmaster rather than just going down to the box office (to save on the fees). Of course, since I actually made an effort to do that, tickets are readily available.
I think 2003-04 were the peak "Absolutepunk.net years" in terms of bands this site was hyping being successful. After that, I think this particular "scene" got split into far too many niches when it was already a niche genre to begin with so we're not going to see many bands stepping out into the bigger leagues (Fall Out Boy may very well be the last underdog band to get to an arena-level, I just can't see Paramore or All Time Low ever fully making the transition). Actually, now that I just said that, I would guess that a Paramore/All Time Low co-headlining mid-level arena tour would be entirely possible for the spring.

Even though I've grown out of it, I can admit when a pop-punk CD is good and Put Up Or Shut Up is too spotty to be a good album. The new one, while over-processed, over-autotuned, etc. is actually a more consistent album, if you're into that sorta thing.

I see what you mean about Nothing Personal being consistent. There's not really a song that throws you a curveball (except for Too Much) and it definitely has the same vibe.

ALL of them are going to be at that show?! (I saw the news article, but I can't get on Myspace at work.) I'm SO GLAD I already have my tickets to this.
And that's awesome that you managed to get Andrew tickets! Not gonna lie, I was hoping you would so you could record the show haha. I'm going to the show in Philly, but I kinda wish I was going to the NY one instead.
Just a note, the show in NYC will be a seated table show (first come, first serve) which both have a $10 minimum (i.e. you gotta most likely buy two drinks). You can stand in the back and on the sides too of course. I have a feeling that a lot of kids are going to be sitting down and not being able to drink alcohol so this idea isn't going to work but whatever, club's fault.
Here's my schedule for the next few months (some could probably be categorized as "craptastic" but that's fine):
8/25 - Nine Inch Nails @ Terminal 5
8/28 - Blue October/Switchfoot w/Ours @ Terminal 5
8/29 - Blink 182 w/Weezer, Taking Back Sunday @ Comcast Center (in Hartford, CT)
9/20 - Thursday @ Bowery Ballroom
9/22 - Snow Patrol @ Beacon Theater
9/23 - She Wants Revenge w/Kill Hannah, Paper Route @ Webster Hall - (SIDE NOTE: Yeah Yeah Yeahs are playing Radio City the same night)
9/24 - U2 w/Muse @ Giants Stadium
9/25 - White Lies @ Webster Hall
9/26 - Phoenix w/Passion Pit @ Central Park Summerstage
10/4 - Blink 182 w/Fall Out Boy, All-American Rejects @ Madison Square Garden
10/9 - Bell X1 @ Highline Ballroom
10/11 - Placebo @ Terminal 5
10/12 - Andrew McMahon @ Highline Ballroom
10/15 - The Gaslight Anthem @ Terminal 5
10/16 - The Airbourne Toxic Event @ Webster Hall

I got GA Pit but regular price (NOT that stupid VIP package)
The U2/Muse show is actually LESS expensive than Blink 182 (how weird is that?) for GA floor.

Haha that's actually really crazy. Aren't U2 and Muse two of the biggest music acts in the world?

Haha, U2 can probably compete for that title. Muse have a little way to go before they can be put in that category.
You can bet if if this was in Europe, people would be DYING to go.

I don't post on this site much, but I do come on every day and I came across this thread, so I figured I'd join in since I'm from NY! I'll be attending:
8/25: Blink 182, Weezer, Taking Back Sunday @ Jones Beach
8/28: All Time Low @ Six Flags NJ
10/4: Blink 182, Fall Out Boy, AAR @ Madison Square Garden
10/12: Andrew McMahon @ Highline Ballroom

11/8: AP Fall Tour @ Crazy Donkey
11/28: Brand New & that whole incredible lineup @ Nassau Coliseum
I will have an extra ticket to the Cobra Starship show in Farmingdale on 8/27. I won't be able to send/give it to you beforehand since my tickets are will-call, so I guess you'd have to be online with me right before doors. Let me know if you're interested.
This, still.

Andrew sold out
I snagged one. I have to figure out which show to go to (and what's this about "limited seating" at Bowery Ballroom?) as I now have a ticket for both Highline and Bowery. Did it sell out instantly like the last one?

I went on at 12PM, selected two tickets, and pressed search only to find out there were none. Tried 1 ticket for another ten minutes with no luck. So I assume it sold out very quick. I couldn't get online during the initial presale, sadly.
I'd like to get a hold of a ticket for this. If you end up not going to the Bowery one, let me know. I'll buy it from you or trade you a ticket for something else you might need. Also, still gotta find a fun. ticket.. might have two coming my way, I'll be sure to let you know since you already asked for that second one. The album is stellar.

I'll be at both T5 shows (still bummed I couldn't get into Bowery or Webster Hall though). Looking forward to seeing Mew on Wednesday as well.
I have two reviews to write:
The Bouncing Souls / Lifetime / None More Black in NYC.. and Liftetime in NJ. Both were great shows.. need to organize the setlists and photos, damn I'm being so lazy.

There's only GA on the floor, and the 2 balconies are seated. So, yes, I guess you could say it's blocked off.

The only time i've been to hammerstein was back in march for 3 doors down. I bought GA tix off craigslist because i had the same concern when only seated tickets were remaining, but they did not block off the floor in any way. Unless there is some seperate entrace before the main doors for seats i didn't see, i think you'll be good

Security will direct you to the balcony when you reach the entrance. You may be able to sneak into GA, but they certainly don't intend for you to have access to the floor. Seating in the balconies isn't assigned, though.
