Heh. Wow.

Canada gets a 4 minute PP for high sticking, Pronger gets a double-minor for slashing and unsportsmanlike conduct.

2-0 Switzerland, 4:48 left in the game.

okay so that would make it 2-1. Swiss team still would have won.

The Swiss are now in first place in their pool, right?

Wait, nevermind they're tied in second, NBC's website just has dipshit formatting, go figure.

Ya and that was when canada was outplaying them and clearly would have gained more momentum if they scored and would have changed the game, regardless Gerber played good and Canada needs a fucking wake up call because in my opinion they havent been playing that great and some people need to step it the fuck up.

I guarantee a win tomorrrow. That is all.

Momentum is not definite.

Who's to say the Swiss team wouldn't have responded by skating their balls off and scoring another one?

Well I don't know if you've played hockey or not but from my experience (16 years playing) in a 2-0 game when you allow a goal that puts more pressure on your team and your goalie not to lose the lead and the scoring team always establishes momentum.

Anyways it didn't count. Canada kept pouring it on and they lost its as simple as that. They need to wake up and regroup today and have a good morning skate tomorrow since their game is not till 9pm italy time and come out and play a good strong physical and offensive game against the finns.

This is totally true. For example, I've been in a game where we were down 8-1 and scored 5 straight goals to make it 8-6 but I've also been in a game where we went down 5-1, scored 3 straight, but then they came back and scored a few more and it ended 10-7. Momentum in hockey isn't like momentum in football because all it takes is one penalty to send it all in the other direction again. So you really can't say either way.

I hope usa beats russia, i dislike russian hockey players. Most of them that is, it baffles me that they fight as a team over their stats in the nhl and create a war within the team.

I think other teams will beat them, there not going to be unstoppable for beating canada and the czechs. I personally don't see them doing any significant damage from this point on.

Espn.com's front page poll is which was a bigger upset, this game, or the Soviet vs USA game in 1980. I don't think there is even question that it is the USA game. The Soviets were just so damn dominant. In this Olypiad, there is a lot more parity, as evidenced by the games played. Big upset for the Swiss, of course, but not as big as in 1980.

Ya this game was definately a huge upset, its actually not that bad here in canada now mainly because it was just a round-robin game and canada faced the same adversity sorta in 02. oh man if that was a medal round game id cry all day.

Yeah, this game doesn't mean much in terms of historical, rivalry, or sociopolitical significance. The miracle on ice had all three of those. This is more a victory of pride and competitive balance than anything.

Two dominating performances does not equal luck.

Damn. I missed the game (up late last night so i slept through it by accident), but it looks like Gerber had a lot to do with that win.

Canada has to pick up their play against Finland and Czechs... maybe this will be a wakeup call for them.

It definately is a wakeup call for them and i thought they needed one during this tournament just like they had one in 02 in the beginnining, nonetheless this was a wakeup call at a bad expense though.

Whatever you say champ.

Getting lucky is winning games on lucky bounces, bad calls, and things going your way without you playing as hard as you did. When you outscore your opponents 11-6 and win both games decisively, that isn't luck.

Slovaks have always been a good team, now the finally have an nhl goalie on their roster to help them out.

Yep.

If the goals that Canada had scored actually counted, this game would have turned out far differently.

Gerber had a lot to do with that win.

When you shut down a Canadian offense that outshot the Swiss 24-1 in the third period, yeah, goaltending has a lot to do with the situation.

i know this is way late but i cant get over how ignorant that statement was. slovakia is the 3rd seed in the tournament and finished 2005 ranked 4th in the world so unless they were lucky for an entire calendar year's worth of games then i'm going to have to disagree with you. i'm hoping the game against the swiss will serve as a wake-up call for canada, much like the germany game did in salt lake. canada definitely has to pick it up a notch though. the defence is looking a little weak and the powerplay needs to start clicking if they're going to repeat.

if the U.S loses this game to Sweden (down 2-1 w/ 7 minutes to go), it's likely they'll finish 4th and set up a quarterfinal match w/ Canada. That would be a cool game to watch, although not likely to be close.
