based on stage set-up alone, it looks like U2 owns this poll. Hahahaha!

Radiohead. They offered In Rainbow for free for nearly three months, and yet still reached #1 on the Billboard charts and moved 3 million copies of the regular full-priced CD version. Only the biggest band in the world could pull that off.

Not that this necessarily has anything to do with "biggest band in the WORLD", but I heard that in England, BLUR is a bigger deal than Radiohead. There's no denying the hugeness of BLUR, but is this at all correct?

I'd like to say Green Day, but, sadly I'd have to say Blink-182.

Purely going by radio and television play, Blur are covered a huge amount more than Radiohead.

Absolutely not. This website is a terrible barometer of the world. I could probably name 30 bigger bands in the U.S. I doubt that they will ever be the biggest band in the world, even when they release the new album.

U2 is probably the biggest band in the world right not, undeservingly... sure their early career was great but they don't deserve to be as "big" as they are still today

Radiohead is the most important band in the world today, without a question. They are probably second "biggest" band in the world though.

im gonna go with coldplay
like u2 have the history but i find that they dont attract "new" fans anymore
radiohead does but you dont hear much radiohead on the radio so for that reason im gonna say no
coldplay is the most current band and everybody knows them and there songs are always played so im goin wit them

I'd have to say Coldplay.

PopPunkKid
07/03/09, 08:47 AM
I WISH it were Green Day, but they almost seem like they're loosing a bit of their popularity with their latest release. It's definetly not Radiohead imo, there's alot of people in the US who don't even know who they are, how could they be the biggest band in the world? It might still be U2, but they're way past their prime at this point... which is why for right now I'd probably go with Coldplay.

Hmm... I don't know about that. You're right, blink is definetly not the biggest band in the world, but I mean look at how riled up people got over their summer tour... they have to be in at least the top 20.

Eh not really. Especially if you are talking on a global scale. At the moment, even in the U.S. bands like kings of leon, the gaslight anthem and manchester orchestra are getting more airtime around here than the old blink songs are getting. And outside of absolutepunk.net, no civilians I know got that "riled up over their summer tour." I can think of a shitload more of my peers who will attend a rascall flatts concert, or a lil wayne show.

But yes, I maintain that I could probably name 30+ groups in that would sell more concert tickets, play bigger venues, and sell more records in my America right now. Perhaps they will release an album, and it will be really popular for a few weeks, but outside AP, they remain unhuge.

Metallica, Linkin Park (yes... Linkin Park) and Muse

no way in hell radiohead is the biggest in the world
no saying they bad, theyre pretty sweet
but they get no radio or tv play what so ever, where as 90% of ppl on the street couldnt name a song by theirs , creep if they r half knowledgable, yet even my old man could rattle of a bunch of green day or coldplay songs

Muse is in no way bigger than Radiohead. In fact, they get unfairly labeled as copying Radiohead.

Edit: Muse's last album was only pretty good, not great. They will never touch OK Computer.

In terms of how big they are now: Radiohead>U2>Bruce Springsteen>Coldplay>Green Day

U2 is easily the biggest. Although not the best (their last album was a huge disappointment to me), they still have the biggest fan base and always sell out stadiums.

I never really considered Coldplay or Green Day one of the "biggest" bands in the world. Following U2 is probably Bruce Springsteen in my opinion.

Ryzenfall
07/14/09, 09:50 PM
U2 is the biggest band right now because the operative term is the world.

People everywhere know U2 and their popularity does not differ as drastically in other countries like Coldplay and Radiohead who are still trying to make their mark.
I think that U2's mark on music is still the strongest out of all these bands. At least half of the guitarists in the alternative scene alone would not be doing most of their work the way they are without The Edge.

I'm not the hugest fanboy of U2, but I do enjoy much of their work and can't help but respect what they've accomplished.
