i used to like family guy, and still think seasons 2-4 where funny, and even early on I could see why it got cancelled the first go around, I mean when the Simpsons drop references they're not every 5 seconds and alot more clever, I mean Martin playing an arcade game of My Dinner with Andre, hilarious, Family Guy only uses pop culture references, it has bascially always been the dumbed down Simpsons, with very medicore plots.

Now South Park is a totally diffrent animal than the Simpsons, and superiror to Family Guy in every way, even the animation is better, at least South Parks purposely crappy animation adds to the humor, Family Guy's animation is just lazy

I like Family Guy. I think it's weird because it pisses me off when someone talks about it (I'm just sick of hearing about it), but I watch it all the time and it keeps me entertained.

Family guy used to be good until they showed all the same episodes back to back every night. The new family guy is also lame not that funny as it used to be. South Park is amazing and keeps getting better with age. If you like Seth's cartoon's tho watch American Dad it's a great show.

Crude humor is only a small portion of South Park; it's really just icing on the cake for a more complex comedic setup. You really need to look beyond the crude humor to see the cleverness of South Park's approach. More often than not the plots are analogous to current issues in the news (canada on strike --> writer's strike), or just social satire in general (Make Love Not Warcraft, Overlogging, Trapped in the Closet, etc.). It's the clever satire that has earned them a Peabody award and numerous Emmy's, not the crude humor. I, myself, enjoy laughing at stupid jokes that are easily set up (this quality overlaps with Family Guy), as well as comedy that requires a little more though. South Park executes this perfectly because they combine both, though most people write the show off only for its crude jokes. However, to say that South Park lacks substance is just untrue; it's there, you just aren't looking hard enough.
