Since UncleRico! and I practically hate each other, I thought I would offer an olive branch to him so we're doing recs together this weekend. He will probably just recommend shitty bands so ignore whatever he put below and check out what I have to offer.
-------------------------------------------------
Gabe's Recs...
Red Light Sting (http://www.newmusiccanada.com/genres/artist.cfm?Band_Id=5749): Vancouver, BC's rag tag everything core band. Think Blood Brothers meets a less annoying Schoolyard Heroes. Too bad they broke up. Go to Amoeba Records and find them.
Kelly Clarkson (http://www.kellyclarkson.com): Probably the only artist that deserved to win a grammy this year. Whenever I'm at work I play her album at least once...sometimes twice.
Brightwood (http://www.myspace.com/brightwood): If you haven't read my review (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?p=2654962#post265496 2) on them, do it now. Then listen to them on MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/brightwood). Then buy their album because you will want to brag about how youve been following them sine February 2006 when they are huge!
Run Kid Run (http://www.myspace.com/runkidrun): Fun, lil' pop-rockers who have recently joined my fave label of Tooth & Nail. Should be a good summer release.
Pink Floyd (http://www.pinkfloyd.com): Animals. You told me to listen to the album. I listened. Thank you.
The Stiletto Formal (http://www.thestilettoformal.com/): It was "Hills Like White Elephants" that got me into these guys. They remind me of a really good horror film in the middle of a posh symphony. That kind of audio-irony caught my attention and I would expect bigger things out of them in 2006.
----------------------------------------------------
UncleRico!'s Recs...
The Fully Down (http://www.thefullydown.com/): Sure, their CD came out some time ago, but it hasnt left my stereo since I first heard it. Sounding like (a poppy) Thrice and featuring some truly remarkable guitar work, this band deserves more attention than they have gotten so far.
Paramore (http://www.paramore.net/index2.html): I saw them live last week, and they were pretty damn good. Hayley is downright adorable, and their album is a lot more enjoyable than I expected.
My American Heart (http://www.myamericanheartrock.com/): I do not care so much for the bands studio work, but their live show is freaking stellar. Frontman Larry Soliman is a rockstar-in-training with more swagger and talent than lead singers 10 years his senior.
Fightstar (http://www.fightstarmusic.com/): If you like good, old, rock that stops one step shy of screamo, check these guys out. A great addition to the Deep Elm roster, their album has excellent production, emotionally-charged vocals, and thick guitars.
So They Say (http://sotheysaymusic.com/): A hard-working live band gearing up to release their Matt Squire- produced debut on Fearless Records. They remind me a lot of Thin Dark Line or other bands that expertly blend rock, metal, and pop elements.
