From ThePRP:
Music video director/feature film director Darren Doane (Deftones, Poison The Well, etc.) has fired back at the recent disparaging remarks made by fellow director Dale "Rage" Resteghini" regarding the work of other directors in the punk/metal scene, going so far as to even challenge him video to video. Speaking of Rage, Doane had the following to say: "Some of the biggest and best names in videos today have all had my support, insight, equipment, resources and encouragement to start their careers. Shane Drake, Chris Simms and Lex Halaby are just a few. Some of the best working today. And then you have Dale Restingini. I want to be clear on something. One of my all time favorite videos was directed by Dale. Everything about the Most Precious Blood video he did was amazing in my eyes. However, this guy just cant shut up. A self proclaimed king of hardcore and metal videos continues to take shots at other directors and their work. Boasting about shooting 99% 35mm is like claiming you recorded your album on Tape and not Pro Tools." Doane's entire reply can be read in its entirety here (http://www.trustkill.com/artists/journals/read-journal.php?id=38).

haha, yeah, those people who work in super 16 or any other format certainly arent real filmmakers. I'm willing to bet that even though he shot in 35mm he still digitized and used an NLE system.

NLE system or not, there's still quite a bit more skill in shooting a video on actual film as opposed to any video format. I don't know how much that one guy prides himself on shooting on 35mm, but it's quite a bit harder than DV/video. I don't really get Doane's comparison with recording on tape and Pro Tools, but I think those require the same playing in order for it to be recorded; where as digital does everything for you and shooting in a film camera requires much more manual set up.

jesus, two directors bickering over who makes better punk rock videos. gimme a break. I respect them as artists, and they should forget what eachother is doing and just continue to do what they do.

doane.....shhh. that's not something to brag about. don't knock people, especially since you live in a glass house.

the guy didnt mention any names. wonder why it struck such a chord with doane. hmm.

what an arrogant idiot.

I don't think there was any video directed by "Rage" that was better than "Ebolarama". Doane wins.

i take it you've never recorded to tape then. merely aligning a tape machine is an artform in and of itself. his comparison is dead on. recording 100% in the analog domain is becoming a lost art.

im not a fan of either director, but doane does go on to talk about one of the best people shooting film right now and that is chris sims.
go check out his work. http://timecodeentertainment.com
watch his demon hunter video.
he knows how to shoot film.
