What do the ladies of AP.net think about this article?

ohLOOKitsLEAH
07/02/09, 11:46 AM
WOW.
I actually read that entire article.
I dunno, intelligence is really important to me, but I wouldn't totally rule out 'bad boys.'
I'd rather have a guy with more street smarts than school smarts than a guy with the opposite.
Does that make sense?
... that's kind of a dumb article.

I think that in this day and age, we as women collectively look for men who can provide us with both mental stimulation and a sense of security. I don't necessarily agree that nerds are better, but then again I would say that I personally prefer a guy who can make me laugh/can make me think rather than a guy who looks good on my arm.

takemyhand
07/02/09, 01:47 PM
what did you think?

Well, I must have really like him he was my first ;)
hahaha.
But, really he was a super nice person -he just had major depression which ruined a lot of things.
Aside from the depression part, he was alright.
He was my first love so I'll always have a part of him with me hahahahaha, I sound c00l.
But, I know he loved me a lot.
He gave me an engagement ring.. lol, I think that was a bit overboard.
We dated for like 8 months before he broke up with me 'as a test to see my reaction' and then I never took him back.. and broke his heart.

I haven't talked to him in forever.

But I mean aside the depression which made things with him unbearable he was a great boyfriend.

Nerds are awesome :)

I know I like guys who are nerdier better because they seem to appreciate women more because perhaps they don't get to talk to girls a lot (I don't mean that in a mean way either). I know the group of guys that my friends and I have been hanging out with for a the past couple weeks when we go out to karaoke night would be considered geeky and we've had a lot of fun with them. They look at you when you talk to them and I found it so much easier to talk to them and had really good convos about music and movies. And they seem to genuinely care about your feelings too.

Yes, you are correct, but don't worry a lot of things about high school are backwards. And the girls who you might be interested in during high school, that only are attracted to the jocks and assholes...they end up getting knocked up/developing a drug problem/dropping out of college a few years after you graduate anyway.

Oh don't worry, I get how it works, I'm class of '10. It still just feels so backwards it's not even funny.

On that note, High School as a whole is kind of backwards in pointless, training us only for possible careers in the Information Society, those who fail meet no success ever, despite their qualification to survive better. But let's keep it relevant.

*ahem* Back on topic. My experience with girls (or lack of lol) has left me jaded, but from that I deduce that nice guys do, indeed finish last, unless they are running a race full of mediocre competitiors (shit analogy, but you get the jist).

Yeah, I definitely get that. I know I'm not much older than you but in my experience it gets better over time, though, or at least that was the case in my experience. I remember when the people I went to school with started dating and so forth, and the majority of people were only interested in those who were good looking and popular, two things that I wasn't really blessed with. As time goes by, though, I found that the people around me either got more mature or I met people who already were. If you don't know them already you do eventually start coming across people who are more considerate in that area. I used to get so disheartened over that shit, and I still do occasionally, but yeah. It gets better, although you seem to already realise that. Once all that came into my head I felt like posting it though, haha.

apsterling
07/04/09, 07:45 PM
Yeah. It's odd, like I understand people will Aim for douchebags/etc. but then the few people who don't that I know, and usually happen to like (funny how that works), don't pay attention to me? Though I don't really stand out in a lot of ways that tend to cause attraction or whatever so it's probably a two sided thing. I'm just not assed to do it cause I'm still in High School, basically.

Right just to clear things up about what I said. Being into geeky things like books and WoW doesn't make you a nerd. Nerds are like the characters on the big bang theory, NO-ONE watchs that show and is like "OMG, how hawt is Sheldon. swoon"

Seth cohen on the other hand is in to geeky things but is handsome, funny and good in social situations. So just because he occasionaly puts on chrismica doesn't make him a nerd. So even though girls might know what they want, saying the want a nerd is just a lie.

well, i'll give you the benefit of the doubt here. i do like attractive guys, who happen to like nerdy things. nerdy-ness isn't THE attractive feature. its just like, appealing being able to relate on a more intelligent level.

If either of the two main characters were micro, molecular, or cellular biologists, I'm pretty sure I'd find one of them attractive.

But then again, I'm (crosses fingers) hopefully going into a PhD program next year in Microbiology, so I really am a nerd.

See, I'm unlucky in that I am an outright nerd when it comes to old school video games, exploitation movies/video nasties/b-movies, comic books etc. but I don't have any real smarts (which is always the thing girls like the most).

Other things girls tend to like about nerds is that they won't go out drinking and embarrass them (due to their often having no friends to go drinking with) but I do that ALOT. Also, I don't look like a nerd, I look like an oi.

If some guy's a good person, means well, and is fun to be around, then I'm not really fussed about intelligence...so long as they hold interesting conversations. I don't really like guys who are too intelligent, ha. Probably because I'm not the brightest bulb in the box ;]. i don't think i've ever been attracted to a nerd...as sad as that sounds. i've got nothing against them though :P

The dating world gets better after high school, trust me! Just worry about yourself first. Confidence is a big turn on, for anyone! No matter how nerdy/ dorky you may think you are.

Not all guys are drop dead gorgeous or hideous enough to make you cringe. I like the cute guys who can make me laugh and talk about things as well. Not just a physical relationship.

i've had my fair share of cute nerds, and they have all been so clingy! The last one was cute and awesomely interesting but got so weird and clingy i just wanted to run to the first dumb meat head i could find.

If some guy's a good person, means well, and is fun to be around, then I'm not really fussed about intelligence...so long as they hold interesting conversations. I don't really like guys who are too intelligent, ha. Probably because I'm not the brightest bulb in the box ;]. I prefer the nerds interested in comics and video games, because that's what I (secretly) like.
If you don't mind commuting 100 miles, we should hook up. I know we dont even know eachother as casual acquaintances but girls with your taste in guys are rare!

Sorry if I come across as creepy but its acceptable once you take into account that I havent had sex in a year and a half!

To me, the category a guy is placed has nothing to do with it, I've dated the bad boy, the nerd, the jock, etc. and they all had different unique qualitles. This article is one woman basing her obsessions on all men, just because she prefers glasses to contacts, does not mean she is an expert in the bedroom. This part cracked me up " IT nerds were ranked so high because they were found to be the most selfless and adventurous lovers, as well as much more open to using tech gadgets (ahem) outside of the office.". This could also be because they spent so much time online looking at porn, they learn!

I don't necessarily like NERDS like you know the obvious geek. Like this kid in my bio class. He is a stereotypical geek bordering on unstable (like the guy that will shoot everyone that made fun of him) and i just wish he wouldn't talk so much. He has a comment about EVERYTHING and almost everytime he says it he sets himself up to get made fun of. That's not attractive to me and neither is wearing your pants too high. My boyfriend's not a nerd but he's not a jock either. He's athletic but he doesn't fit that jock stereotype. I think people are attracted to whomever they click with best not certain KINDS of people.

Being the nerd, jock, life of the party, geek, athlete, baller, social magnet... none of these labels matter.

What matters is PASSION.

You can be the best Halo player in the world, or a master Java programmer, or the biggest Warhammer 40K fanatic... if you show your enthusiasm, skill, ambition and PASSION for your hobby, I guarantee you there will be a girl who will be attracted to you because of it.

i watched a boy put a computer back together once, it was kinda hot. i guess

also, some hot guys work at geek squad.

Agreed, that is def the best one out of the prequels, because it has the story line and better effects, but the acting still was not the best, and some of the scenes were a little corny for my taste. Even though we have better effects these days, I feel they were just made better back in the day.
