how do album presales work?

so you recorded an album..and your going to put it out..bands do presales..how do they work? what are the presale cash go to? anything?? anyone one want to enlighten me?

It's not really all that different from regular album sales... you just pay early, and you get the album when it comes out. Money usually goes to the same places it would go to if you bought it regularly.

ah i see. so really no diffrence just gives the album to the fans faster?

Not necessarily - fans preorder the album so they don't have to go out and buy it on release day, and they get it mailed to them so it arrives on, around, or sometimes a little before, the actual release date.

Additionally, bands with larger followings tend to include extra items as a pre-order pack, so to speak. These items typically include a signed CD, poster, t-shirt, vinyl copy of the album, etc.
