To hook up my guitar to my computer: I put a cord in the output of my amp and then stick the other side of the cord (with the adaptor on it) into the input next to where I stick my speakers? Sorry. I'm a technology retarded.

You hook it up to the input on the computer, I think that's accurate. Are you going to use the recorder in windows for recording? Or do you have some sort of program?

I'm using Audacity.

I'm just wondering what input do I put it into...

I think it depends on your sound card. You might not be able to do it if it's one which comes with the computer, and you might have to buy a Line-In to connect it to.

Na the sound card won't matter. It's more about the processing capability of the soundcard. If it has only 8bit interface your guitar sound won't sound much better than a computer mic.

But yeah you will need to buy a line in (or make one) with a 1/4" jack reciever. Then plug this to the line in input on the back of your computer.

Then from the amp output to that line in cable.

Line in is okay, but if you were ever thinking of doing something professional line in is the last thing you would use.

UMMMMM!!!

what kind of amp are you using?!?!?!?

if you are using a tube amp, DO NOT plug the output into anything but speakers. and if its a solid state amp, it better have a line out.

you would be better off miking your amp or plugging your guitar in direct. why the hell do you want to plug your amp into the computer anyway? if you say its the tone, then i would say that most of an amps tone comes from the speaker, cabinet construsction, and the room its in. there really is no reason to plug an amplifier directly into a computer. you could seriously damage all of your equipment and computer that way.

seriously, mic your amp into the computer. or plug directly in from your guitar. the guitars output impedance is so low it wouldnt hurt anything.

i would just save up some money and buy a good mic to record with.

the mic always works with me.
