View Full Version : Pro Tools?
So I'm buying a MacBook Pro which is coming in about a month, and I was wondering if Pro Tools 7 was compatible with it yet or not.
Also, if you buy Pro Tools from the official website, do you get a hub to record with. My friend has it on his Powerbook and he has a hub you can directly plug a guitar lead or something in there, and I was wondering if I needed to buy this seperately or if it comes with it.
Thank you please

no pro tools 7 isnt compatible with it yet, there is a new version being released in may because the newer version can take a lot more tracks and plug-ins. as for the hub, i dont think you get one with it, just get a usb hub or somthing similar. the best thing would be to shoot into a apple store cause they are generally quite helpfull or might tell you who to contact.
hope this helps.
thankyou please.

If you buy the pro tools m-box, or digi series, it comes with it's own interface (I'm guessing this is the "hub" you're referring to) into the computer. I don't know if it's compatible or not, but you can go to digidesign to find out. I think it has more to do with the operating system. We have os x 10.4.3, and protools 7, and they work fine. But there may be more limitations that I am not aware of, and the guy above me said that it's not.

Have you looked into Logic? it's better than ProTools in a lot of ways.

Definately don't buy the software. Like someone said before you can get the interface (hub) and that comes with the software. And it doesn't cost much more.
The MBox is the best interface that comes with pro tools in a set. The preamps are great.
As for compatibility you'll find that ProTools 6 does more than enough. Unless you're pushing the boundries of your software (drum recording, professional mastering etc) you'll find yourself not using half the features of Pro Tools. That said if you are then you might want to wait it out for 7.

Cubase > Live > Logic > ProTools
Cubase > Live > Logic > ProTools
Is that a joke? Cubase is alright for MIDI, but anything else Pro Tools beats it hands down

^ Why?
Cubase > Live > Logic > ProTools
Actually I somewhat agree.
I use Cubase for my studio and have found it's the best bridge between semi professional and usability in any audio software package.
I don't like Live much though.
When i've recorded at professional studios i've sadly never used anything else but ProTools so haven't had a chance to really give Cubase a work out.
I've used Cubase a lot over the past year or so. It's by far one of the best MIDI programs out there, lots of plugins and easy user interface. But for recording live instruments I found it to be lacking features which really make it easier.
