Steve Francis (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3325) is headed to New York under a deal agreed to Wednesday by the Knicks and the Orlando Magic (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=orl).

Francis The teams agreed to a trade of Francis for Penny Hardaway (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=1274) and Trevor Ariza (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3860), two league sources with knowledge of the deal told ESPN.com.
The trade was expected to be announced later Wednesday afternoon after being called in to the league office.
In New York, Francis will be paired with Stephon Marbury (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3099) as the highest-paid backcourt duo in the NBA.

Hardaway The Knicks were still talking with several other clubs as team president Isiah Thomas worked at remaking a roster that has stumbled to the league's second-worst record, 15-37.
For the Magic, the trade will provide salary cap relief to a franchise that can now go further beneath the cap than any of the league's 30 teams in the summer of 2007 when a bumper crop of free agents will be on the market, giving Orlando several options in figuring out how to rebuild around 20-year-old power forward Dwight Howard (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3818).

Good. I was concerned that we didn't have enough me-first guards with absurd contracts.

well if you think about it this is setting up another deal of some kind as they now have Marbury and Crawford as well. I'd imagine one of them will be out the door.

Crawford was originally supposed to be gone in this deal... If they can still get rid of him, great, as long as it isn't at the expense of Frye, Lee or Robinson.

who cares about fucko francis...
the main part of this deal is the fact that penny hardaway will be back in orlando. this means more awesome shoes, new penny jerseys...and perhaps...the return of little penny?

yes. because it won't happen. he's only in this trade because he's a salary cap relief to any team.

honestly i think penny can come in and have one last resurgence in his career, even if it just \ends out the season, and he can get a contract for two years based of this play and get hurt or something. prve he still has gas left in the tank. where better to do it than where he was a fan favorite for years? the city will love to see him back, IF given the minutes he can produce, and if penny hardaways going to be on your bench, in the city of orlando, you can expect him to be getting minutes...
im taking bets now on his first game. halfway through the third quarter...the 'penny' 'penny' chants will begin.

this was a good trade for Orlando, especially once Jameer Nelson comes back, he'll be a monster.

The Magic are going to have a great future. Howard, Nelson, and possibly Darko. Plus now they have a ton of cap room.

i love reading your horrible posts fresh.
he's rehabbing in houston on his own, he may get cut or he may end up suting up...either way, wherever he goes this season, he's going to contribute in a small way.

If only getting the fans excited, that'll do the trick. He's still as charismatic as ever.
Penny is back.

So is this the disappointing end of one of the most promising careers in NBA history?

I read a rumor that Isiah traded for Francis as part of a strategy for them to trade for Garnett in the offseason. I don't know what Isiah is thinking, but I don't know if he's going to be around that long in the offseason if he keeps making trades for shoot-first, ballhogs like Francis in order to make deals later.
