View Full Version : Wow Canada
Canada is so bad, cant even score goals against good opposition
Didn't score one goal at that rink they played in today
Left off some of the top Canadian goal scorers (stall, spezza, crosby)
Pat Quinn is an aweful coach
gees what else can i come up with

it was a bad day for hockey today :'(
I bet staal, spezza and crosby are laughing now
I thought I'd be more upset, but I knew coming in Canada wasnt that good and ya look what happens.

Crosby shouldn't have been on teh team. Spezza and Staal yes.
Pat Quinn is a very good coach.
Iginla, Gagne, Draper, Nash, Thornton and Pronger all sucked ass.

Why not Crosby? The young guys need to get the experience some time.
Ya i agree crosby probably shouldnt have been.
Im not gonna make excuses because i acknowledge canada fucking blowed but there were so many times where i feel we didn't get the breaks we needed in those 3 loses and especially this game.
nonetheless the russins played a good defensive game.
2010 pick a better team, dont pick a team based off 2 years ago (2004 world cup)

Draper sucked ass? Come on man, that guy was one of the most valuable players that Canada had. He and Doan made our penalty kill.

I see your point, but who needs a penalty kill when you can't score? Sakic and Heatley had a really good line that I think worked well, but the others, with maybe the exception of St. Louis' we're mediocre.

you know what those 2 were probably our best players and thats something to say to the rest of the team.

Without the penalty kill, we would've been in even more trouble. Let's face it - we take lots of dumb penalties.

you are absolutely right, why is it that the usa is getting all this attention for doing such a horrible job, the front page for espn has a picture of dipietro and says debacle on ice, they talk about the usa losing and then add a small line about canada losing as well, usa did not have half of the stars that canada had, yet they were never shut out in any of the games and they played every game close, they were the closest to beating finland and probably could have won today if the refs didnt make two bs calls (the double minor on hatcher was crap, they called the penalty like two minutes after the play happened just because they saw selanne bleeding, he got hit on a follow through of a pass!, and gomez getting the ten minute penatly was horrendous) fact is that canada choked and everyone should stop talking about who should have been on the team, they still had the best players out of any of the teams in the tournament, and adding one or two players would not have made a difference
Oh god 2010 is so far away, so much to do in those years, graduate university get a job, ffs so far away.

Bertuzzi / Pronger.
Hell they just said 6/9 top canadian scorers were left off the team.

i dont think its a matter of talent. canada had the most talent out of all the teams in the tournament. they just didnt play well together. the chemistry wasnt there

Ya they could have if they played like a team
I can't believe Canada didn't even make the top 4, that is just sad.

ok, staal, crosby, and spezza are all centerman, so who do they replace, are they going to take sakic's spot? or how about lecavalier (probably the canadien player with the best moves), or joe thornton, stop saying they had the wrong players, they had the best players in the world and they choked, its that simple

I know they choked BIG TIME, its pretty evident. Gretzky picked this team based on the 2004 team which isnt always a bad thing but when he left guys off that were having better years "this year" that could have been a mistake and all im saying is i wonder how different it would have been if we had those players like staal, spezza, phanuef or even crosby.

It's not hard to switch centre's to wingers. You can replace forwards with other forwards. Going from winger to centre is harder. Duh they choked, but there were clearly better players who should have been on that team.

probably has something to do with espn being an american website
the double minor on hatcher was crap, they called the penalty like two minutes after the play happened just because they saw selanne bleeding, he got hit on a follow through of a pass!
it was the right call, go look at my post about it in the US/Finland thread.

i saw that, but i just have a problem with the fact that they called it like two minutes after it happened, its almost as if he got hurt and saw him bleeding and were like "oh, hatcher must have hit him so its a penalty", or maybe im just bitter, haha

There is going to be so much pressure on them in 2010 it's going to be unbelievable. It should be very interesting to watch.

I don't think Gretzky picked a bad team. Experience is huge in these things. You need a team who can handle pressure, who knows how to play against talented rosters like these. I felt they had a good mix of old and young. The problem was chemistry and strategy... they didn't have those two factors.

bingo. they had the right team, i think. but even more than a lack of chemistry or strategy, they just plain did not show up. and crosby, spezza, and stall wouldn't have completely dominated the entire olympics nor would they have single handedly carried the canadian team. could they have helped? certainly. but canada just did not show up to play. regardless of personnel.

i dont think a lot of it was gretzkys fault. he put together a team that had plenty of talent to win the tournament. they just didnt play like a team. its hard to predict how a teams chemistry will be.

No, i wasn't into hockey at the time, but i hear they were bad, and so was ownership, and I'll admit that if one person had to go, it should be Richard Peddie, not Pat Quinn, but that won't happen as long as they are making money.
