View Full Version : final thoughts about Team USA/ Team Canada
i am really proud of how team usa performed, i do not care that they lost, they went out there and played hard and gave all of their opponents and incredibly tough game, i think americans need to look past the fact that we did not win a medal and realize that there are a lot of GREAT hockey teams and you cannot win every time, just ask sweden in the last two olympics, and for all the people who think that nhl'ers should not play, i suggest you find a replay of chelios being interviewed after the game, he looked as if he had been crying and could not speak very well, and he ended the interview by apologizing to the united states, please dont tell me that chelios doesnt care about playing for his country, these guys are traveling across the world to play an extremely tough schedule of games, these guys care about winning for their country
as for canada, they also left early, but you know they will be back

I hope they continue the Olympics break in the NHL. As for the teams - bleh. Both should have done better - especially in prelims.

Sure the U.S. could have done better given a few breaks, but overall they played pretty well. They were never favored to win a medal and were conisdered to be lucky if they even won a bronze. Canada should be dissapointed since they were one of the favorites and didnt come close to their potential.
i didnt know where to post this, so i figure i would put it here, did anyone else see that there was a montage of hits put together, i forget at what point it was shown, it was after the usa game but it could have been between the periods of the other games, anyway the montage was set to "collide" by howie day, i was laughing my ass off, weirdest choice of music ever
I give the US some credit, they went out there and gave some teams a run for there money and were able to fight back from deficits. Canada was terrible all tournament, just brutal. In my opinion Canada should win Gold every tournament they compete in if they form the best players (not counting the world championships here), its there tournament to lose and this tournament they lost it because they couldn't play as a fucking team. As Wessa said Canada will be back and I know its early but I'm calling them to take Gold in Vancouver on home soil in 2010 after this worthless display of hockey. Also, as you said with US Canada didn't get many breaks in the games they lost but hey that shit happens. Yay 2010 is so far away I love it.
Also, theres some things you can just pick at, Canada going 3 games without a goal with that roster, a terrible powerplay throughout the tournament, geeeeeeeeeeeees I can go on forever how devastating this team was.

yeah, they really choked it away. and all these people saying if spezza/crosby/stall were there then they would have won. um, no. they wouldn't have. the whole team playing shitty isn't going to be overcome by 3 kids. if that were the case then gomez and gionta would have lead us to a medal because they played insane. Until, you know, gomez shot the puck at the linesman, which in turn, dashed all hopes at a comeback. but besides that fucking retarded move, gomez and gionta really, really impressed me. i thought they played very well. and drury did, too, towards the last few games. and for the talk that our goaltending was so shitty, i thought, on the whole, it was solid enough to not go 1-4-1. the US doesn't seem to have as many finishers as other countries. we've got good set up men, and not alot of goal scorers. the US also took some horrible penalties.
all that said, i, too, was encouraged by what i saw. i thought they played very, very well. above my expecations, regardless of their record.
i had canada winning gold, sweeden winning silver, and the czechs winning bronze, so at least 2 of my picks are still alive.
and if russia plays like they did, in the pieces of the game i watched, they could/should win gold, i thought they played unreal.
oh well, i guess I'll have to settle for the Red Wings winning the stanely cup. :)
