hah Okay. I know some people that do the same thing.

You might as well apply anyway. You never know what kind of scholarship(s) you might get. I know some people that don't have to pay much money at all to attend. Most of them are in minority groups though. I got a merit scholarship for $5,000 a year based off of my grades in high school which helps a tiny bit, but I know other people who have gotten larger scholarships from some of Belmont's benefactors. Just become BFFs with Vince Gill, and you'll be good. haha

I keep hoping the cost will be worth it in the end. The fact that one of the artist managers I interned for last semester is an alum and one of the ones I'll intern for in the fall is as well gives me some hope about finding a job. I guess we'll see when May 2010 rolls around and I have to do something productive with my life. I've had some great experiences at least in the last years just from being in Nashville.

yeah, true. i'm definitely in no minority (and definitely not bffs with vince gill ahaha), but my grades are great so maybe i could get at least a small one.

ah that's so awesome! i pretty much love anything and everything to do with the music industry, so interning, oddly enough, sounds like a dream for a kid like me haha. oh, and i bet you have a pretty good chance at finding a job though. keep your chin up ;) haha.

Interning can be great, and you could definitely get a good internship in or around Nashville even if you don't go to Belmont. You just have to be careful who you accept an offer from. Every company in the music business in Nashville wants interns because free labor is great in a crappy economy. So while it might feel great that a company wants you, it might not be a great fit for you. I guess if you go into it with the perspective of paying your dues or learning, you'll be fine in most cases.

I really lucked out on my first internship. They weren't big on frivolous tasks and told me upfront that they wouldn't ask me to do anything they wouldn't do themselves. The bands the company worked with were great and I could see how the work I did had value. Some days were more boring where I just spent 6 hours cleaning up MySpace pages and reading through blog/photo comments, but most days were good experience. But I have friends who were basically errand runners that answered phones and got coffee, so there's obviously a mix in what companies are expecting from interns.

haha, wow, it does sound like you lucked out pretty well. i'm not sure if i ever will intern or not, but if i do, i'm sure i'd enjoy it one way or another. i'd almost always rather be doing a task for someone else/a collective group rather than solely for myself.

Never taken it, but it's known for being one of the hardest classes at my high school.. if that means anything.

Haha you're a civil I assume? My cousin is a civil...his job is actually pretty cool cause he works for the NJ/NY Port Authority so even though he works in Jersey he goes into New York City almost every day to work on the George Washington and such.

ha that would be lagit designing boarding gear, you should look into that...maybe you could create some BA new type of gear that would net you some dolla dolla bills for sure lol

but yeah im civil, right now i intern for the city of albuquerque in planning and development but after i get my masters ill probably move to the private sector for more of the design aspects of civil (plus make more money in the private firms ha)

Haha yeah it would be amazing...snowboarding every morning before work and then designing the products you were just riding.

Ah yeah I'm an intern at an HVAC monitoring/maintenance firm in my town...it's really not what I want to do but it's tolerable. If I keep this job for all 3 years I'll have a job offer waiting for me which is pretty sweet. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do yet.

ha there you go, just call it R&D for your boarding co. lol

yeah its all good brotha, i intern in the hydrology dept and i really dont want to do the whole water and hydrology thing either later on, im just here to get experience and make contacts...in about two years, after i pass my FE exam and get my BS, there is a junior eng spot here in hydro that we cant fill due to a hiring freeze from our mayor, so im pretty much guaranteed that spot when a graduate...then ill prob keep it for another two years as i go through grad school and get my PE licence

but just keep your eyes open for any opertunities that come up and just try to meet/befriend any contacts that come around...its worked for me, ive met a lot of different people like contractors, architects, and other civ eng

I'm in a double degree program, a Bachelor of Arts and an Indonesian equivalent of it. They give you time of about 2 years for each degree, starting with the Indonesian portion, and since they're trying to get us into the basics, they put more study load on the first four semesters, but on the last four you only have to do four subjects per semester.
