Got a call from a buddy today, and his sister in law said that brett Favre came and put a 30,000 deposit on a condo in Minnesota and is expected to announce his signing with the Vikings by July 15. Thoughts?

who's gonna be eating what words?

july 15th has been speculated all over the place. it's after ota's that he didn't wanna go to and it's the week childress gets back from vacation. it's not like you're the first to break that news. it's been said all along that if he did sign it wouldn't be until after the 15th, so i'm really not sure what you're so proud about.

I normally don't wish harm upon people...especially pro athletes...but I bet Drew is with me on this one, man would I love for him to tear an ACL Tom Brady style in the pre-season or Game 1...just make him go out at the lowest point possible

Haha. I hadn't followed this story too closely cause the whole thing is fucking retarded and I'm tired of this guy coming out of retirement more than Jordan, but I still thought it was a neat little piece of info.

Yeah, your sister-in-law should stop listening to little birdies (http://www.twincities.com/ci_12765594?source=most_viewed) or hacks like Charley Walters.

i don't want him to get injured. i just want him to play fucking horribly.

and it'd be even more amazing if he got benched for sage or tjack.

that'd be so much more fulfilling than an injury.

this will seem like a longshot to a lot of people but.....my rommate's friend's girlfriend's dad (knows) someone that lives (we'll refer to her as Jane* and knows brett favre. brett favre sent jane an email saying that he was going to play for the vikings and not to be mad at him for doing so (im assuming said Jane is a green bay fan). i got this text like a three weeks ago, extremely inside info. i just never shared it with anyone. believe me or not. brett favre will be with the vikings next yearm guaranteed.

im not being sarcastic either, i just randomly saw this thread and remembered the info.

Why would they need a passer with AP in the backfield?

haha, I was wondering if you'd remember the whole college basketball season where we were cheering for ACL tears

They truly don't...they need Trent Dilfer, not Brett Favre....they need a guy who KNOWS his job is to throw the ball 20-25 times, make 1st downs, and allow AP to carry the ball for big plays. If Brett Favre does that (for the 1st time in his career), I'll take back my bad thoughts and be impressed...but nothing about his career makes me believe he is capable of that

He would not be able to do that. He has too many passing records. Minnesota would only want him for his namesake.

I agree....but, talk about a division that went from irrelevant QB's to REALLY interesting. Favre, Rodgers, Cutler, and Stafford (or Culpepper, though unlikely). It went from a group of game managing "we expect nothing" QB's to a bunch of QB's that teams expect top 5 performances from.

haha yeah definitely, I say Culpepper starts the season at QB and Stafford will start by Week 8 or around there. The Lions will be out of it by then (really, the Lions will be out of it by Week 2, the middle of the the first game perhaps?). I didn't even realize Rodgers had better stats than Peyton Manning until I flipped through a fantasy football mag.

I actually think Stafford starts Week 1 personally...unless he really struggles in training camp and pre-season Week 1...simply because they can go 3-13 and call it a major improvement. I like Culpepper, but, he's not gonna get them to the playoffs by any stretch of the imagination....so if Stafford is playable, at his salary, he's gotta start all 16 games

That's true, I guess it just depends. Will they go the McNair route where he sits the entire first year, or the Manning way where he is thrown right into the fire.

Erroneous!

Favre's stats during the 8-4 stretch for the Jets were exemplary! Then he was injured.

Please, let the Vikings do amazing. I think of 1998 every Sunday in the Fall/Winter.

wow there is a lot of favre hate in here! i welcome him. i don't really mind that he will try and pass a lot. AP is fuckin amazing... but with favre throwing more and taking away touches from peterson, all we get is an interception instead of AP fumbling. i gladly take him over t jack, and i would rather have brad childress in there throwing than rosenfels. maybe then he can stop making horrible coaching decisions...either way it will be an interesting season.

I just can't imagine the fans reaction to paying a guy $5+ mil to sit...even if they wanted to sit him for the whole season (which might be smart), they'd be pressured to play him by like, Week 6

I really get the feeling that Vikings fans are gonna love Rosenfels when he gets in the game (I'm guessing Favre's body breaks down about Week 7). Think Trent Dilfer with that Ravens team...he didn't lose games for them, and in rare instances, could win a game...but ultimately his job was to not fuck up what the running game and defense were doing right.

Good luck getting Favre to do that...he throws 4 INT in a game, he goes out there ready to throw his 5th

It's times like these where I miss the Denny Green era of having a different over-the-hill QB every year somehow rejuvenate himself behind top-notch WRs and Robert Smith. Sure there was no defense and it eventually caught up to the Vikes in the playoffs every season, but those were some fun teams.

ok, maybe i was being hasty... i could totally try looking at rosenfels in a different way. it has just been a while since the vikes had an exciting passer in there. i can have some irrational hope that favre plays great can't i??? he is always exiting to watch. rosenfels (and dilfer) are/were boring. might play solid fundamental footbal, but they just aren't as fun to watch.

anyone who knows the vikings knows they choke; no matter what. so if we're gonna fuck up, then why not have some fun doing it... right?

Well it wouldn't be the Vikes if they didn't find a new and amazing way to choke after getting my hopes up.

No it's still boring like the Devils trap teams of the 1990s were boring; however in Baltimore's case boring paid off in 2000 (as did New Jersey in 1995).

And we're finally free of that monster! Free at last, free at last...even though we've been the most successful expansion team over their first eight years in the past twenty seasons we are free at last!

Eh, it's always hockey talk - no one cares about football. This is Minnesota we're talking about after all.

It is if we're talking about the sports themselves, but not if we're talking about professional sports/teams. As far as teams go, the Vikings are easily number one until they end up moving to LA. Then it's be the Twins until they fail to sign Mauer and Morneau and alienate the fanbase for not spending money after building a brand-new ballpark. They are followed be whichever winter team is better-ran, which in this case is the Wild, and finally the poor-run winter team (the Timberwolves provided they also don't move or disappear in the next few years).

oh definitely...just as long as you know what it is. I think too many Jet fans expected him to be the savior, and were pumped at 8-4, which made it all the more crushing. Honestly, if the Williams' can avoid suspension...and AP stays healthy...you could probably put anybody at QB and still be a playoff team (see last season for example).

Unless of course the Lions make an unexpected turnaround and make that wild-card spot...

Basically - and it worked to a tee last year despite losing E.J. Henderson for most of the season. The problem is (and this is essentially why I believe the Vikings are willing to roll the dice on Favre) is there's a difference between being a playoff team and a Super Bowl-contending team.

I can only hope he injures himself during training camp so I won't have to cheer against him. Really, the Packer fanbase supported this guy through a great deal of shit and he signs with our most hated rival? I know some may reserve that spot for the Bears but I will cheer for Chicago every time they play the Vikes. At least Vikings fans had to suffer through Darren Sharper's blown assignments and Ryan Longwell's feather-footed kickoffs before they actually cashed in on our sloppy seconds.

1. It's the Bears due to a longer rivalry and the fact that the majority of Wisconsinites are based in the eastern half of the state (Milwaukee, Madison and Green Bay itself). The Vikings are only the largest rival if you live in western Wisconsin or have some connection to the Twin Cities/Minnesota.

2. That's nothing compared to Robert Ferguson, but in fairness that's evened up by Koren Robinson so his exclusion will be excused.

Haha, how did I forget about Fergy! I swear, for five years i kept thinking he would finally cash in on all that potential. Forget Jamal Reynolds or Ahmad Carroll, Fergy was by far the biggest disappointment as far as I'm concerned.

And, yes, the Bears-Packers rivalry is the longest-standing in the NFL but, for me personally, I dislike the Vikings more and have ever since the Hovan era. This was only intensified by the fact that I had a kid on my dorm floor last year that had an air horn that he'd sound every time the Queens would score.

You can't direct that at the Packer nation in its entirety. You can direct that at Ted Thompson who has been seen as trying to push out Brett in favor of a fresh new regime ever since he was first signed by Mike Sherman. Hell, in his first year, he drafted Favre's replacement and then, later, got rid of his two star guards and his (overrated) center.

And I think names such as Sterling Sharpe, Reggie White, and Leroy Butler did an okay job at maintaining relevance through that span as well.
