Today I am joined by the incomparable Dan Gordon (CalamityRecs) from Calamity Records (http://www.calamityrecords.net/). Have an amazing week!
Mine:
Rx Bandits (http://www.purevolume.com/rxbandits) - "Decrescendo" is perhaps the greatest song of all time. Cannot wait to hear ther next effort.
Leger (http://www.purevolume.com/leger) - Cool mellow rock, good vocals. Check it out.
Street to Nowhere (http://www.purevolume.com/streettonowhere) - How come nobody told me about this band? Superb.
Neutral Milk Hotel (http://mergerecords.com/band.php?media=true&band_id=51) - If you haven't heard In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, you can't call yourself a music fan.
Dan Gordon:
Thank you to Garett for inviting me to do recs this week. here are the bands I
feel deserve some light to be shed onto them. please check them out and let me
know your thoughts.
The Forgiving (http://www.myspace.com/theforgiving) - A fantastic UK band on the verge
of great things with their upcoming and soon to be completed EP. They sound
like a mix of saosin/funeral for a friend. Catchy, yet intricate. The vocals
are great, the drumming is fantastic and the structure, energy and passion
can't be beaten. My top recommendation.
Trophy Scars (http://www.myspace.com/trophyscars) - A post-hardcore band from New
Jersey. They don't follow the rules and create some damn fine tunes. The
lyrics, vocal styling and structure is great. They deserve to be much bigger.
Fans of chiodos and anyone who appreciates something different will love these
guys. With a re-release of an old EP and an album in the works, they won't be
unknown for long.
The December Drive (http://www.myspace.com/thedecemberdrive) - Their previous CD,
handslikegunsandcrashingsounds, was somewhat of an underground masterpiece. Two
years later with an upcoming album, their plans are much bigger and are looking
to achieve the success they deserve, while playing the music they love and not
just what they think people will want to hear. Go check out their current stuff
and keep a lookout for these guys and their new album which is due to drop in
May. Heads will turn.
The Drive Back (http://www.myspace.com/thedriveback) - Fun and beautiful pop-rock from
MN. Their EP AutumnMotive is fantastic. It recently sold-out and it will be
re-ressed and I recommend you pick up a copy. Fans of copeland and mae should
adore this band. They have plans for a long year of touring, so try and catch a
date, as well as keep a look out for a new cd.
Fiore (http://www.myspace.com/fiore) - They may only be a new band but with member from
bands such as The Beautiful Mistake, Slow Coming Day and A Fall Farewell, you
know that there is lots of talent there. The three tracks they have recorded so
far are absolutely amazing and I can't stop listening. They are soon to be back
in the studio to record an EP which I am eagerly anticipating. Similarities
strike with Circa Survive (especially the vocals) and cave in. Eveything with
this band is special but the vocals are simply stuninng. You need to hear this
band, you'll regret it otherwise!
Finally, please check out Cavil At Rest (http://www.myspace.com/cavilatrest)and
The Photo Atlas (http://www.myspace.com/danceatlasdance). Also I almost forgot, pick up the we are scientists cd.
