View Full Version : Boogie Nights
What a great movieeeee
It has one of my favorite scenes in a movie ever (when they go to deal the "coke").

One of my favorite movies, and it's all cause she made it that. When she stomps down that dude from highschool for calling her a slut that is just very premo.

Yes this was a really good movie.
Although I saw this when I was going through puberty so maybe I am over-exaggerating it.
Though you wont ever hear me say that a move that contains the quote "Cum in me" a bad movie.

Fucking awesome movie. One of my top 10 favorites.
Heather Graham is so hot in that movie, even if her character is a porno slut. I've made a couple friends watch this, and they love it because it's one of the few movies that runs 2 1/2 hours but doesn't feel like it.

Punch Drunk Love. Definitely. Popdisaster will say the same. I can't think of anything like PDL. It's brilliant.

I think he must have contributed to it somehow. Looks kind of interesting either way though.
Punch Drunk would be perfect for you to watch next. It's his shortest film (around 90 minutes I think) and it's PTA's version of a "Romantic Comedy." It will also show you Adam Sandler in a light that you've never seen before, and Phillip Seymour Hoffman plays a small but awesome role in it.
Then you should totally make an effort to watch Hard Eight / Sydney if you can. It's his first feature, and I guess the studio had a lot of control over it at the time (pretty sure that they let him do whatever he wants now) and you can kind of tell at times...but still a great performance by John C Reilly, Samuel L Jackson is pretty cool in it also, and so is Philip Baker Hall. Totally still a PTA film, but you can tell that he was still getting in the groove of things...even though he did Boogie Nights only one year later.

"God Only Knows" was the perfect choice.
I really need to own this movie. The story and acting are absolutely top-notch. One of my favorite scenes is when Mark Wahlberg and John C Reilly meet for the first time and make margaritas. Sooooo fucking funny.

awesome. have you/will you be able to meet Mark?
awesome. have you/will you be able to meet Mark?
at my previous internship at Mosaic Media Group (they did The Other Guys), Mark was sitting in the lobby with this look that said "i'm mark fucking wahlberg why the fuck am i waiting in this lobby for" he looked irritated and had his hand over his head sitting in the chair. I was walking out to the elevator which means i have to walk through the lobby. we made eye contact as my jaw dropped, we had a moment. got into the elevator saying to myself, "mark wahlberg just gave me the dirtiest look in the world. ........AWESOME"
now 3 months later here I am working at his company, Closest to the Hole/Leverage Mgmt. and hanging out with his managers monday-thursday!
i've yet to see Mark in the office, i'm assuming the dude is filming another movie, Contraband, I believe. but i'm waiting for the day he is in the office and I can say, hey remember that time at mosaic you were sitting in that lobby, yeah that asian kid was me! mark and i got a connection for sure though.
but it's cool cause the managers don't only manage Mark, I've chatted with Aaron Paul's manager quite frequently (referring to your avatar) i prepped a script for him today actually

naw, not even. i'm just a small town kid with a big dream doing my best to make it in hollywood. but yeah that might seem cool and all but interning is not. it is the ultimate bitchwork of the hollywood totem pole, i think i'm known more as "Paul, the Intern" then my actual full name. you're pretty much the company's bitch/slave/whatever. you don't get paid, not a lot of respect. plus when the company tells you, "hey paul it's 5:30pm, go drop this off in burbank in the middle of LA rush hour because we love torturing you! we don't care about your finals, midterms, or how you're living under the poverty line!" not much you can do besides suck it up and do your best anyway.

i've deliberately eschewed the film route, i'm an english major. anyone can make a film, but not everyone can find a compelling story to tell and film is a story told in pictures, thats why i chose english. but thank you for those words, i really appreciate it. but i'm definitely not the only one with a future, Tim (SkyHeldUpByStar) is a director/screenwriter and his featurette got into a festival out here in So-Cal. I was lucky enough to meet up with him and talk to him, and he's such an awesome dude really excited to see him come up in the future
but one thing i learned about getting into the real world, no one tells you youre doing a good job, keeping up the good work. words of encouragement are hard to find in this industry.
