Alkaline Trio (http://www.absolutepunk.net/alkalinetrio)'s "Burn" has been put to images of Hurricane Katrina and the relief effort - check it out on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMpBQh76_1Q).

The song is powerful without the imagery. =)

What?!?!
I don't think these people who decided this knew what Alkaline Trio were about, nor what the song is about.
Regardless, lol.
I'm not laughing out loud at the victims, for what happened to them really destroyed their culture.

That's what I find amazing about music (especially in our "genre"), you can relate it to whatever you want ... and when Alk3 sings, "this hell is our home.." it can mean something different to everyone who hears it - yet remain so personal.

um, is it just me or does this seem kind of fucked up? don't get me wrong, i love the song, but perhaps not a tasteful choice of words for the images being shown.
and "this hell is our home" is probably not something the victims need to be reminded of.

I hear you.
I like that about our genre of music though. It means something different to everyone. And even in this case, for bad reasons.

my taking of that line when put with katrina could mean America as a whole as our "home" and how the government made new orleans and mississipi a living hell. i think its a great line to be put with those images

i think just looking around outside reminded them of it...the words just say what they already saw

I don't know, I didn't like it. I guess it fits the anger and the frustration with our government's lack of response, but there's something about putting these images to music that makes me incredibly uncomfortable. And on the lighter side of things, it was pretty cheesy.
I don't know, I guess if other people get something out of it, then good for them. But not something I'm a fan of people doing....regardless if it's homemade on You Tube or done by news stations like CNN. Doesn't seem right. Could have been that it was just a poor song/band choice. I don't know, but I thought it was in somewhat bad taste.

i thought that the song wouldn't fit at all ut then again you have to think about Alk3 and then think about katrina...the music went pretty well with the images. I hope this motivates those who can help out to help out those down there because there is still a lot of work to be done. props to biloxi for not fighting the government and just getting things done down there.

Yes, but what the song was intended to mean and what the band is all about is more important I believe.
Btw the link does not work for me for some reason...

more important than what?
more important than what?
That what he said..
I can't see how a band with a message such as theirs can be compared to this.

Basically hell, satinism, pissing of religious people ("we definitely like ruffling people's feathers and poking fun at organized religion a little bit. Kids are sometimes bummed, but that's sort of the intention" -skiba), death, etc..you get the point.
"God bless catastrophe"
I love them.

maybe its because you don't live here and are ignorant to who the alkaline trio is, but the band is very involved in social causes -- the take action tour, shirts for a cure, rock against bush comp, punk voter tour, just to name a few. i mean, AP put up a video just today of matt skiba encouraging vegetarianism. skiba has been as vocal about his distain for george bush as anyone has, and many blame the general disaster that happened in this country & the aftermath on this apathetic administration. so, sorry to disappoint but your idea of the Trio just isn't the whole picture. therefore, knowing what i know, the song, video, and message it sends fits like a glove.

The song does not fit the video, full stop. Quit picking holes, you are just being a pain. I don't need you to school me on Alkaline Trio just because I'm not American, it makes no difference.

i'm not schooling you; you're just wrong, and aptly proven so with FACTS not opinions. you saw "we've had enough" a couple times, read a few articles where skiba jokes about things and think that the alkaline trio is just about satanism and pissing off religious people. do you REALLY think "God bless catastrophe" is to be taken literally? you're wrong, and kind of an idiot.
by the way, full stop? makes no sense.
picking holes? i think the correct saying is "poking holes."

It is what people from England, who speak English properly, say. Learn English correctly.
I don't really give a shit about whether you think you use "FACTS" or any of the other bullshit you say. I just think you are a complete bell-end to be honest. You have this fascination with trying to prove everything I say is wrong. I have the right to have my own opinion, and I don't really give a fuck if you don't think it is just. Don't try and tell me I don't know anything about Alkaline Trio, because I do. I have met them and chatted with skiba about the Church of Satan, and he is not just a memember of it for 'a joke'. Now you can reply and make yourself look like a complete pillock again, but I don't really give a monkey's toss. In my books your are about a straight at a fucking roundabout. You are not making yourself any friends you wankstain.

Wow, so much anger. That was like British tourettes! Must have struck a nerve, huh little guy?
I don't need to argue phrases with a shitheel like you, but again, yours was incorrect no matter what English speaking country you originate from. I have plenty of family from England and Ireland...and yeah, your choice of words are still incorrect.
I have no fascination with proving you wrong; you do a great job of that yourself.
You have a right to your own opinion, but maybe you should base your opinion in fact and not in some skewed fantasy about the Alkaline Trio. But do what you will. Rest assured that all your idiotic posts prove is that you still don't know dick about the Alkaline Trio. Idiot.

The only person making idiotic posts around here is you. Don't try and pretend you have the slightest idea of what you are talking about because you have family in England. I have many friends on this site, and people respect me and my opinions - I don't need some wanker like you to make it seem like I don't know shit. You do feel a need to argue, since you have repeatedly replied to my posts, and have always been the one to initiate a dispute. I know you will probably want the last word because you think you are so fucking full of it, but don't think you can tear me apart, because most of what you have said is utter bullshit. Go on, make one more post to satisfy your ego.
For your information this '.' is what is refered to as a 'full stop'. Commonly know in American English as a 'period'.

Simply because you state that what I say is utter bullshit doesn't make it so. I can say I'm a Chinese emperor; doesn't make it true. The thing that bugs is that you're so arrogant in your opinion of what the Alkaline Trio is, and your idea of them marginalizes the band in such a massive way. By the way, it hasn't gone unnoticed that you've tried to get away from the point of this back and forth -- the fact that alkaline trio isn't just a group of Satanists and yes, they are totally into social causes so using burn to raise social awareness totally fits. Why? Because in one post, I had several examples of how they were but you just couldn't take it, never addressed it like "oh, i see your point." That's what gets you into trouble -- your ignorance AND arrogance. One is fine, but the combination makes you look like a jackass and you become a target. Face it, your summation of what they are is wrong and posting the same thing over and over again about how I'm a "wanker" or "pillock" still makes you wrong.
