Heeey Guys !
So , i just got finished the book The Giver and found it was really weird, but verryyy goood !
anyone else read it ?

I read it in 7th grade, I think. I liked it, but I'm a pretty big nerd and end up liking almost every book I read.
PS: You might want to start typing without all the extra letters and spaces in between the lines if you don't want to be verbally abused and stereotyped as an obnoxious newbie/Paramore fangirl.

One of my favorite books from grade school. I recently reread it and, having more knowledge of the sociopolitical issues it deals with, liked it even more than the first time.

I would have thought the opposite, that it would not hold up over time. I loved this when I read it (5th grade I think?), maybe I'll give it another try sometime soon
Yeah, we read it in 5th grade. I don't remember much other than the end having something to do with sledding I think? Fuck I don't know.

i also read it in 5th grade. i picked it up again my senior year of high school and found it to be just as enjoyable as the first time i read it.
The ending was really unsettling when I read it in 7th grade, but overall I remember liking it.

Oh no, it's the opposite of what you're thinking. When they give this for you to read in grade school, you just can't fully appreciate it. At such a young age, you really can't. Reading it as an adult is by far the better experience.

I really enjoyed that book. I read it in 7th grade and I remember a lot of people hating it.
Though I wasn't a fan of the ending.
I'm into those kind of futuristic/science fiction books. a series i'm really into is called the uglys. Its about a world where at the age of 16 everyone becomes "pretty" and this one girl is rebelling against it.
Can anyone reccomend any other type of books like this?

Probably one of the best books I read in middle school.

Read this at about the same age group as everyone else- def. one of the best books our school assigned us to read (or one of the best books I read in elementary period.) I love the ending, but back then I was just upset they didn't reveal what happened ha.

I liked it when I read it in 7th grade. I haven't re-read it, but I probably would if I was bored enough.

Nah, you're thinking of Citizen Kane.

Haha I was just joking. I really don't remember anything about The Giver (other than the color thing and it being a dystopia) so you could be right...unless, of course, you were actually thinking of CK.
"Jonas and Gabriel cross a snow-covered hill in the dark and find a sled on top, which Jonas remembers from the first memory he ever received. He and Gabriel board the sled and go down the hill where they hear music coming from some houses."
So many sleds.

Haha yeah I know. I did get worried I somehow mixed the two up, though so I looked it up.

Read it in fourth grade...liked it then.
I'm betting I won't like it as much after rereading it.

I agree with everything you just said here. ;) The only difference is that I read it sometime in Elementary school (I think it was 3rd grade or so). I loved it when I read it, but it's been a while now. :)

I remember I was one of the first people to finish the book and my teacher took me and this other kid into the supply room so we could talk about the ending without spoiling it

Yeah that is a great book. My teacher read it to us in like the 5th grade. Years later I read it again. Bought it recently actually!

It's part of a trilogy. All three are options my 7th graders may choose from for their literary criticism project.

No way, that's a decent YA read, but the Giver is pretty much a classic.

good book imo. Ending is kind of meh, but I asked Lois Lowry about it (I met her in person) and she said it was intentionally ambiguous because of the age group she was targeting.
