i just finished watching the royal tenenbaums (hated it the first time, but after watching it for a second time, i think it is a very enjoyable movie), rushmore has been one of my favorite movies for a long time, i have yet to see this movie, wes anderson hasn't wronged me in the past, has anyone who has seen this movie have an opinion on it, and how do you compare it to other wes anderson movies?

its definately not as good as Rushmore or the Royal Tenenbaums, but its okay. it certainly isnt the greatest movie in the world. it has some funny moments, but overall it was pretty meh for me.

edit: if you liked the other two, and enjoy the type of comedy in them, you might as well watch this

"He's out...you're out too...and I don't think i'm in either. No gang!"
"I blew it man....I lost my touch." - "Did you even have a touch to lose?"
"On the run from Johnny Law? Ain't no trip to Cleveland."
"How does an asshole like Bob get such a great kitchen?"

I love Rushmore and Life Aquatic. I've yet to see Bottle Rocket and I've tried to watch Tenenbaums twice and both times I fell asleep halfway through.

The Life Aquatic is great, but a step in a different direction from his other work.

But Rushmore is better than The Royal Tennenbaums, and I've never seen Bottle Rocket.

life aquatic is deffinately worth watching. it's not worse than the others, but its not as good if that makes sense.

thanks for the feedback, i am definately gonna see it, i might just take the chance and buy it, i will probably like it, i hope it is out on criterion collection, i know rushmore and royal tenenbaums is on criterion and i think bottle rocket is, they give a lot of extra footage, and they give you special inserts (like for rushmore, they give you a paper map of rushmore academy, its cool, they also have all the mtv short films from the movie awards on the dvd as well)

for the guy who didn't see rushmore, you are missing a fantastic movie, plus so many bands that this site writes about reference rushmore, example: Brand New - Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades, that is what max says to miss cross when they first meet.

I really enjoy this movie. It is full of offbeat humor and awkward moments. Each actor puts out a stellar performance (standouts include The Bomb Stooge and Zissou's Wife) as well. I highly recommend this movie.

haha, yes, great line, damn i love that movie, i also think there is a band that has a song called "She's my rushmore, max", i forget the name of the band

honestly, for memorable quotes, i would put that movie up against any movie, there are so many, but i love murray's speech at the beginning at the chapel:

"You guys have it real easy. I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and your going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you."

and max fischer writes in his book "best chapel speaker ever" haha

Alistair Hennessey: Is this my espresso machine? Wh-what is-h-how did you get my espresso machine?
Bill Ubell: Well... uh... we fuckin' stole it, man.

I've rented this movie twice, but I haven't gotten around to actually watching it. I probably should have just bought it.

You should definitely watch it. It's a bit different than the other ones you mentioned, but still amazing. And I feel that they go more like this:

Royal Tenenbaums > Rushmore > Bottle Rocket > The Life Aquatic.

But TLA grows on me more every time I watch it.

I agree. The Life Aquatic was great, but the others were still better.

it was okay. the animation is worth the 5 bucks alone. i just kind of thinkl Wes Anderson got cocky about his filmmaking a little to early.

I'm pretty sure Every Time I die has a song called Shes My Rushmore.

I think it's impossible to rank Wes Anderson's films. Every time I finish watching one of them I think it could possibly be his best. They're all amazing though. He's by far my favourite director.

Life Aquatic is the best Wes Anderson.

That's right, I said it. Bring the hate.

I didn't really like it the first time I saw it for the first time, but I had a strange desire to see it again. Second time I was sold and now it's one of my favorite movies.

well i took all the advice and bought the movie, i watched the first twenty minutes and was not impressed, i shut it off after that, i was getting tired and i didn't want that to effect what i thought of the movie, ill check out the rest later, but i do hope it gets better

I love Life Aquatic.

I haven't see Bottle Rocket, but I don't think I can really pick a favorite between Life Aquatic, Rushmore, or Royal Tennenbaums. It just depends on what mood I'm in. They are all good.
