Hello lasses and gents, this is a Duwop song that I wrote for my band. Writing duwop lyrics were EXTREMELY challenging in that I couldn't be nearly as wordy as I typically am, but still tried to drive home a point. Let me know what you think. *Note* Cathy Ames is a character from, "East of Eden".
We were just kids, Cathy Ames, when I mixed up your
name inside of my gut with all of that liquor.
All the things we always did were just wrong.
When I took you to a graveyard underneath a Dixie moon,
it was like there was nothing in your eyes, like they were just buttons
when you said,
"Everyone you will ever love will just rot.
Why love when everything that will ever be loved will just rot?"
You'll never grow old, Cathy Ames, just shrink into your skin
like a kid in a blanket on a Sunday and think,
"All the things I always did were wrong.
All the ones I didn't love will still rot."

Not bad. I'm beckoned to love this only because "East of Eden" is one of my all time favorite novels. I'm not qualified to judge this in terms of it's duwop-ness (is it doo wop? I feel like I've seen it that way too), so I'm of no use other than to say great quotes to use.

East of Eden is also probably my favorite novel. I tried to accurately portray her character without using direct quotations, through Adam Trask's point of view. It also helps that I dated a "Cathy Ames" for a very brief period.

Ouch, that's rough.

I take it you're referring to the part about me dating "Cathy Ames"?

Yup.
Yeah, I was barely 18, she was 23, and she played the shit out of me. Straight maniacal man. Absolutely stunning, off-the-wall sex, but pure maniacal.

They are- but she was beyond normal female craziness. She was constantly plotting.

I think it's great that she had a good 5 years on you. It gives you the whole innocence edge.

True. Although she truly duped me- which is saying something considering I generally trust no one.
She knew exactly who I wanted to date, and thus became it. *ahem* Fucking bitch

A good friend told me "Into a good life a little crazy will always fall."

Well, I think your use of internal rhyme (especially Ames/name in the first stanza). I dunno. I really like this. I don't know what I would/could change about it. I wish I could be more helpful, but i feel like this is pretty good. Well done!

haha thanks man. Its SO constraining to write to a duwop melody, but like I said before, it was a really good challenge.
