Yep, I still have the feeling the guy would have never even made it to the NFL if not for being so famous for his XFL jersey.

still_life
03/01/06, 03:12 PM
And you could probably expect names like Sam Madison and Eric Moulds to show up soon. Damn, AFC East sucks.

Packers should go after Mike Anderson, Ty Law, or Sam Madison. Man, if Bates was still the D-Coordinator, Madison would play at GB I bet.

yeah i dont see moulds staying on. The team is still going to owe him 5 million next year no matter what, but we dont have the money to give him another 5 on top of that. It would be great if we could settle at somwhere like 7-71/2 but his agent alredy said he wont accept a pay cut.

I'm okay with it though, he has lost a step each year, and Lee Evans will fill in nicely for him.

Well Miami just got rid of 3 DB's. Might be where they have to go early in the draft.

You can expect Pennington's name to come up soon. That means the Jets will most likely be taking Jay Cutler at #4.

Pennington would be retarded not to settle for a pay cut, hes never even played a full season in his career and everyone questions his arm strength. he doesnt have to drop 8 million or anything but i would expect him to settle at like 3 or 4 million

i just heard Don Banks (from SI) on the radio and they were saying the Colts are gonna be screwed if there is no agreement.

and you're right still_life, the AFC East is going to suck, that pats luck out once again.

Redskins and Raiders are in cap hell, haha. Thank God I'm an Eagles fan. With all this cutting and the Eagles(after TO cut 21 mil. under) along with a few more teams ( Pack, Cards, etc.) in good cap shapethere is going to be some great talent out there. And rumor is Simeon Rice is going to be cut loose, I personally would love to see him with the Eagles since our pass rush sucked last yr.

Miami cut more than half of their secondary, their QB stinks, and the defense is old. I don't buy them as a playoff team.

free agency got delayed 3 days...so it's a 3 day extension for teams to figure out what the hell to do. tons more cuts coming this weekend it looks like, but a chance for teams to restructure their big name contracts to try and creatively make it work. very interesting off season so far.

haha, don't you already have 3 first round WR's, it's just absurd. Basically all you need is a guy who can complete a few 10 yard passes and you are set. They can create their own form of running game with that speed

I don't think they have any major cap issues (Bettis gone, likewise with Bell, so those were their two main big contracts that were questionable in recent history)

No Steeler cuts, yet.

Good.

word is that Hartings and Maddox are gone. The 2nd one may be a blessing, but losing Hartings hurts.

As for the Pats, this works out well for them. Miami is in cap hell, and has no hope of competing for a playoff spot next season w/ nobody besides Ronnie Brown and Chris Chambers. Losing Ricky was a bigger blow then people seem to think. The Jets are in cap hell and not very good to begin with, and Buffalo is subtracting as well. Pats look safe and sound even if we lose Adam and Givens. McGinest is replaceable, and likely will be with the 1st rounder (Bobby Carpenter seems to be the consensus choice by mock drafts).

Willie Williams and Bettis will retire, Maddox will be cut, and they have to do something with center. Losing Hartings won't be that bad since he's old, declined in play, and Okobi needs to take over already. Or maybe they'll draft Nick Mangold.

Don't rip on Maddox. He is directly responsible for the drafting of Ben Roethlisberger in 2004, the 15-1 season, and the Super Bowl win.

Yeah I agree thats what will happen. But we still need to keep Hope more than anyone right now. Randle El isn't nearly as valuable as him. And the Steelers know that.

If we don't keep Hope I think we should draft a FS with our pick. There are some good ones on the board.

And yes, Maddox is the man all right. The only player to win the XFL and NFL Championship!

still_life
03/02/06, 07:31 PM
They'll do what the Steelers always do: make an offer, say they want to keep the guy, he declines it, signs somewhere else for more money, doesn't play as well. It's worked many times for the Steelers, even though I'd like to see Hope stay.

Maddox's poor play in 2003 ---> 6-10 record and 11th pick in the draft ---> Ben Roethlisberger
Maddox's injury/poor play in 2004 ---> Roethlisberger comes in ---> 15-1 season
Maddox blows two starts in 2005 ---> Steelers relish 6th seed in playoffs ---> Super Bowl Championship

Maddox owns. He even pulled off the best Steeler playoff game I've ever seen, against Cleveland in 02.

Yeah exactly. That's been proven sooo many times. I still want to see Hope stay though.

And yes that is true. Maddox actually did help out the Steelers in the end.

That was a crazyyy playoff game. I remember going to that one too. We all thought it was over, but what a comeback.

in actuality, everyone cut today is still a member of there teams. the cuts dont go into effect until the Sunday night deadline passes, according to Chris Mortensen. If a deal is struck and the cap increases, you won't see all these guys gone.

i'm ok with losing mcmahon, detmer stays. that should be a given.

hollis is just about gone, and the other two probably are as well, but our line just isn't that great anymore and losing those two could kill us. anderson's never proven himself with a bad line, i'd rather he didn't have to now.

hey, if they take holmes theyll have one guy on the team who can catch.
oh right, because santonio holmes has the best hands ever. so lets waste a 4th straight #1 pick. in fact, let's just trade our roster for alot of overhyped wide recievers who had a good last game in college football.

If there's no decent o-line for Harrington or, the newly aquired Shaun King (god help us), to give the qb's time to throw the ball having recievers that can catch is of no value. besides, mike williams can catch as can roy williams and when charles rogers get's his head out of his ass and quits crying because he's the second best reciever on the team, he can catch as well. hands aren't the problem. staying healthy, running routes, utilizing their size, etc.. that's the problem.
