you should go to Richmond.

yeah, that'd be cool...but i didnt apply there...and my grades probably arent good enough to get in any way...unless by richmond, you mean vcu, which happens to be in richmond...

but yeah, explain why i should go to richmond??

no by richmond, i definitely meant UofR. it was my top choice school, and i got in, but it was just too expensive and my family doesn't qualify for financial aid. i looked at almost every major school in VA and Richmond was my favorite. the campus is beautiful and you can get a superb education there. i'd still go there in a heartbeat.

fuck both of them. go to jmu. best music school in va. good music industry program.

plus radford is not as good academically as jmu. vcu, though better than radford academically, is in a shitty location.

how do you know so much about Va schools when you're in jersey?

if you're looking for a good music scene go to VCU, richmond is about the best Va has, but if you want an actual party school or to have fun at college go to Radford, you can't beat quadfest.

captainobvious

yeah...ive heard stories about quadfest...i think im gonna try to go this year, my cousin told me that the dean was going to monitor it this year and see if they'll be able to have em in the future

i applied to both jmu and gmu and looked at richmond...but like alyssa said it is really expensive. from what many radfordians have told me jmu has a much cooler party scene. unfortunately the music scene is pretty bad though jmu overall gets some good acts (oar, 311, howie day, jew, tbs, black eyed peas since ive been there) but the party scene is wonderful. quadfest may be good but nothing comes close to jmu block party. something about 5000 or so drunk kids drinking from 10am til 4am or so the next day is great.

i forgot to say...im a junior at jmu.

yeah, i remember when tbs and jew went there-that's one of the benefits of vcu, there are a couple clubs around there that have bands...i've never heard of any bands going to ru...

wait...g-unit

There is no reason to pay the tuition for UofR when UVA is just as good of a school, if not better. VCU has a much better music scene, downtown Richmond has a ton of venues, Radford is not a hard school to get into at all. VCU doesn't have a defined campus, its all around our trashy dowtown aread. It's all just what you're looking for.

what the fuck are you talking about??? Radford's tuition is about 2.5K a semester. I don't think you know anything about schools.

Quadfest is about the same thing as the block party. Pretty much drunk people roaming the streets of Radford for a weekend, not just a day of drinking. Radford has had Outkast and Dave Chappelle that pwns anyone that JMU has brought around. They have some shitty people this year but i think they're saving up for someone good next year. They cancelled Quadfest officially this year because of the drunken ruckus that was caused last year but i believe the students are just gonna have their own "Quadfest" not school sponsored.

James Madison University def has the party scene. But George Mason University puts you closer to DC. That is where the scene is. 9:30 Club used to be my spot. So many bands play there. Plus you are only an hour from Baltimore, and there you have the Ottobar. One of the best little venues I have ever been to.

I didn't say anything about Radford's tuition. I said University of Richmond, the tuition there is about 40k a year.

I go to VCU and am a Sophomore, and I love it. There's plenty to do musically, and the campus area around Monroe Park is actually pretty nice. Sure, there are sketchy parts of town, its freakin' Richmond, but its a nice school. I'm not a huge partier, but you can definately find a good one. It's not the same party scene as one of those campus colleges like jmu or radford...

To the ones that go to JMU...I tried finding some of their Music Industry program information but couldn't get it on their website. Am I missing something? Maybe one of you can help me out because I want to work in the music industry, and @ VCU am Majoring in Marketing and Minoring in Music...

The Marketing aspect is kind of dry...I'm only in my second year, but there's a lot of dry accounting and math and what not. The music minor I haven't started yet, but should be fairly easy since it only required more or less 24 credits; performance, theory, instruction... I still wish I could go somewhere close with a music business program.

big big big problem with gmu though is that its a commuter school. my friend went there for a year and i visited him once. the most boring weekend ever since the place is empty. but being close to dc is good.

for the music industry minor you might need to check the music program. i dont know though. but jmus marketing program is great. plus you can go to belgium for a semester.

You should be thankful you didn't goto Richmond. It was honestly the worst experience I've ever had. Like you and I'm sure many others, I was sucked in by the beautiful campus and so called high academic standards. However when you get down to it, its nothing more than rich prep school kids rejected from Ivy Leagues. Not to mention the profs take themselves WAY too seriously and have this infactuation with grade deflation. Not to mention its like 42 grand now, which is an absolutely ridiculous cost for a non-Ivy League undergraduate education. Don't goto VCU either, Richmond is honesty the most boring city in the entire country. It's strictly business oriented, offers no diversity or value, and has no music scene. If your from the North, do yourself a favor and stay there. Virginia is definately NOT the place to be.

Not sure about where in Richmond you were. I agree with the UofR part. It is very preppy, and full of wealthy yankees. The Downtown area has a fabulous music scene, so again, I'm not sure about where in Richmond you were looking.
