But hasn't Dreamworks also proven that they could, when they want to, produce thoughtful animated features? I think the reason why there seems to be a monopoly is because Pixar has probably been the only studio that has been consistent about their releases.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to this. The minions as well as the voice cast are enough for me to see this.

Oh, makes more sense.

There could be some stiff competition at the Oscars this year for the animated category. But I'd still put $100 down right now that says Toy Story 3 will win, and like Up, will also be nominated for Best Picture.

I think it's just easy to compare the two movies since they both came out at close dates. If it was a dreamworks movie, we probably wouldn't even bother comparing the two. If anything, it's a compliment to despicable me.

With that said, even though Toy Story 3 was a better movie overall, I laughed sooooooooo much more at this.

There were a lot of "awww, that's sad" moments for me, but definitely no crying.

Also, a sequel is now in the works (http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/07/13/despicable-me-sequel-in-development/). I have been thinking about what they would do for a sequel since I saw it and I was kind of stumped. A guy at /film said it well:

But where do you go with a Despicable Me sequel? It seems to me that audiences were most taken with the minions and Gru’s evil plots. And now that Gru might be somewhat reformed, the character becomes a lot less interesting. I would propose that Illumination look into creating a prequel showing how Gru came to find The Minions, and revolve the story around the small yellow creatures.

I took a trip to California this past January where I got to meet Elsie Fisher, the little girl who plays Agnes (IT'S SO FLUFFY!). Long story short, I was at a restaurant in Idyllwild, my girlfriend was curious to know if any famous people lived near the area and so inquired of the wait staff, the waitress informed us of a few names (Elsie being one of them), and later that night she and her father happened to stop in. The waitress knew the girl's family and informed Elsie that we loved her in Despicable Me so she got really excited and wanted to meet us. She came over to our table and said the line for us. It was awesome. I also never realized that she was the little girl in this commercial:

It is a pretty sweet brag despite no one ever really knowing who the hell I'm taking about until I say IT'S SO FLUFFY in that exact tone. I did also get to see Colin Firth get his star on the walk of fame.

From not too far away.

Also a hippie college kid walked by mumbling something about how it was sad that we all like, totally worshiped these people and stuff. So. Cool story bro?
