It seems every artist has one out there. I want to record with pro-tools. Are they really worth the money? Is it the same if I just go with a regular, quality PC?

In the end it basically boils down to personal preference (IMO). You can run some variation of Pro Tools on both, and you'll need some sort of Pro Tools compatible audio interface for both. On the lower end of things, I doubt there would be much difference.

I think both can do pretty much the same, even though Macs are geared more towards media production. Since Macs are so much more freaking expensive, it could be in your interest to invest in a PC. I just like Macs because they look cool and they run very smoothly. If you do decide to purchase a Mac, it would probably be best to get a Pro. I don't think the regular MacBook is powerful enough to handle all the audio processing.

Honestly, the PC is the part I am least concerned about, I used Pro Tools on Macs and PC's during my production classes, they work pretty dang similar the thing I was most concerned about was having all the stuff you need to record, the headphones/amp set up, the stuff to hook mics and stuff in etc.

People will argue which is better a Mac or a PC until the end of time. Personally I have done a lot of music editing on both Mac's and PC's and in my experience the programs on PC's tend to crash way more often. And when you're recording music this can mean losing a lot of work and time.

No matter what, you're gonna want a desktop, or an iMac. I've never used any recording things on a Mac, because i can't afford one. Just a different OS from what I know.
