A die-in is basically like an idiot convention held in the middle of a street.

I personally think these people are really helping Bush and war gain support. Because people look at these folks and think that all anti-war protesters are this stupid and dont want to be apart of that.

Gandhi didn't promote violent protests it was just the opposite. Rosa Parks disrupted a bus/a few people and the public agreed with her, the idiot protesters dispute hole citys and the public doesn't agree with them, thinks in part to there own actiosn.

I've said befor the civil disobedeinas is effective untill it becomes an exuse to be violent
Despite the arrests, the demonstration passed peacefully, unlike an anti-war march last weekend in which activists clashed with police, leading to around 70 arrests
This obviously wasn't violent.
So why is this so bad. I don't understand

Is speeding down a highway violent? Then why is it illegal?

yay!!! were lying down in the middle of the street blocking traffic. getting in the way of ambulences and firetrucks who need to get to people who need help because we think can change the Presidents mind by putting our asses on blacktop for a few minutes.
if youre going to protest, do it right. get your permits. stay on the sidewalk. and most importantly RESPECT THOSE AROUND YOU WHO DONT AGREE WITH YOUR VIEWS AND JUST WANT TO GO ABOUT THEIR LIVES!!!

Because it is quite dangorus and can lead to a very blooy violent death.
Lying in the road when there is no possible way for a car to hit you is neither dangorus or violent.

Speeding leads to car wrecks. Peace rallies have lead to violent riots. The people arrested were not just sitting on their ass, I guarentee you that, they were obviosly doing something to get arrested. Like this one guy from Portland was wining after getting arrested because he only threw acid in a police officers face. To me thats violent. Not everyone at those rallies were arrested, just those who could have turned violent. Just like cars are ticketed before they crash, these rioters were arrested before they hurt someone

Just because they weren't violent doesn't make it ok, they were disrupting the lives of others and the is something they don't have the right to do.
My question to you is, Would and intelligent person ly down in the middle of the street in NY city?

On an average day no. Of cource not. But they were at a protest, and they felt this was a good way to get there point across.

I could kill every democrat in the world to try and make a point, would that make it correct?

I'm sory, but theres a bit of diference between mass murders and lieing down on a city street.

that is a very bad analogy.
A better analogy would be: If someone was against the war and decided to wear a chicken suit every day to protest the war. Even though the chicken suit (laying in the road) has no connection to the war they think it is a good way to draw attention to themselves.
I would hope a majority of the people would realize how stupid both of these protests would be and are.
The lieing on the street is conected to the war. It is symbolic of all the people who have and will die as a result of it.

i have no problem with anti-war protests. but the NY protest was illegal, they did not have a permit to be there (unlike the massive rallys held here last week) and they certinly dont have the right to interfere with people who just want to go about there lives. Lying in a public street is a hazard, a danger to all, and should not be condoned.

Bush has made it very clear that he wont listen to leagal protest, so now we are forced to protest illeagly.
BrandNewRock05
03/28/03, 09:46 AM
Supposedly these protests are peaceful, but how many cases of we heard of brawls with each other, bystanders and policemen? Tons. Some guy even threw acid in a cops face. That deserves 10 years in the pen, not peaceful. Even those standing ILLEGALY in the streets should be cited for tresspassing

Maybe i really want the government to cut taxes, but they won't. Do i just stop paying them all together?

the problem i have is that the guy who organized this said he wanted to protest in new york to remind the american citizens what 100 dead bodies look like. It's New York City, they don't need a reminder, they lost 3000+ people in one sitting, they know dead bodies.

No, Bush is the rich kid with the sweater draped around his shoulders, who only gets breaks up fights if it is affecting him, bribes teachers, and pays people to do his homework for him. In reality, he was probably also the kid that goes ,"I'll tell my daddy about this!" whenever something doesn't go his way.

if you arent disciplined, what will stop you from doing it again. if a dog pees on your carpet, you hit it on the nose with a newspaper, if he pees on the carpet again, you hit him again, eventually the dog will get the message and stop urinating on the carpet
