If Duke doesn't win a national championship, they had a failure of a season. Man, so not fair to the team and coach and players ... crazy amount of pressure.

You really need to spend a few years watching philadelphia sports if you want to talk about pressure.

Dude that is failure for a team that is that good. Lets say they go out in the Elite Eight, okay they had a good season, but they should have gotten to the Championship game. Thats fair for the preseason number one.
Redick and Williams should be able to handle this, they stayed in school to win it all.

But two players shouldn't be expected to. Especially when UConn is the most talented team and have a shit load of juniors/seniors .. the pressure should be on them .. the championship is their's to lose.

I don't think that people who aren't living from New York, Boston, Philadelphia, or fans of some good teams that aren't in that area, understand that when a team is established as a good team and is having a good year, that to not win the championship is inexcusable.
With Philadelphia its just like rediculous though, they can overachieve and if they don't win they had a bad year.

the same pressure is on UConn, but Duke was the preseason number one and just lost two straight. That's why they are beign concentrated on.

jason tate speaking out against hype? what world is this?
but on a sports front, it is tough. carolina had that to deal with last year and roy williams has said all year it was ridiculously difficult. i think nova is in great shape right now because everyone knows they're good, but somehow people will still sleep on them come tourney time.

yeah, i agree with the people who mentioned philly, boston, and new york. that's the way things are in the northeast .. pressure comes w/ success and a big fanbase. you can't have it both ways.

I think at this point no one is jumping on the Duke bandwagon with JJ ice cold at the wrong time and their weaknesses becoming huge holes at the end of the season. Don't get me wrong, I love Duke, but they are having some serious issues right now. All the pressure is on UConn right now, because they are incredibly obviously the most complete team out there. Of course, realistically, any team that is consistently good always has a ton of pressure on them, this is no different than it always is for them.

You think if Nova doesn't make the championship game it is not a failure? Nova was the #1 before Sumpter went down.

Yes, anything less than that is a failure for Nova, Duke, and UConn. Even if they don't go that far, they still had a greta season, but less than expectations, which makes it a failure.

People from these cities won't accept losing... they think they are too good, which is usually the demise of their franchises. But, I have to say, we are spoiled in Detroit, with good hockey and basketball.

that is why you live on the west coast where the teams don't have nearly as much pressure as east coast teams. nobody expects much from the angels or lakers so when they are succesful it is a pleasant surprise.

yup. People stioll expect a lot out of the dodgers too. People were PISSED last year. Maybe not to win it all, but at least to contend year in and year out. The new owner blows.
nobody expects anything out of the lakers and when a team doesn't perform to standards we don't throw a shit fit like the east coast. i can only imagine the tantrums people throw when the yankees don't win the world series when they have a billion dollar payroll.

The city of LA might not like the east coast but they have enough loyal fans to have high standards

Dodgers owner has been doing his job, spending money on who the GM and others tell him to spend money on. That's basically his job, spend money, reap benefits. Not every owner is Steinbrenner, so don't blame the Dodgers owner for their problems. DePodesta honestly just didn't do a good job of putting the team together.

wrong. He's been running good people out of the back offices of the organization for the last year. His whole family is a cancer. That's why quality free agents don't want to come to LA. because he's an ass.

Any big market team will feel the pressure of hype, and not winning is considered a failure. Look at the Yankees. They haven't won the world series since 2000, or been in one since 2001, only a 5 year drought since being there, and Joe Torre and Brian Cashman's heads are always on the chopping block at the end of the season. It's just how it is.
