It is the newest book by cormac mccarthy
its part of the the oprah book club.
Now its becoming a movie! It is a really good story about a father and a son trying to get to the east coast in a post apocalyptic world.
according to what i've been reading, the movie will be directed by John Hillcoat(has worked with nick cave and directed a video for Maroon 5).
It is going to star Viggo Mortensen(Eastern Promises) as the dad, Kodi Smit-McPhee(Nightmares and Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King) and Guy Pearce and Charlize Theron have also been reported as having roles.

who has read the book, who is excited for the movie?!

I had to read this for freshman entrance to college and I found it kind of boring in a lot of parts, but every now and then there was something really exciting like the boy finding the corpses in the shed and the man struck by lighting walking down the road

definitely a good book, should be an excellent movie.

I'm just wondering if they will be able to make it visually interesting. Everything being covered in ash is pretty drab.

Yeah I couldn't put it down and had nothing to do. It's such an easy read, it's simple but so riveting at the same time.

I know it's completely different, but it made me think of Children of Men with everything looking quite dull and old, but that worked.

They better not mess it up. I bet they will.

Cormac McCarthy's lack of regard for punctuation leads to an overall feeling of pretentiousness in all of his writing. I can never read more than a few pages of his stuff. Looking forward to the movie though.

I hope they don't turn it into an action movie.

I hope they don't either. I think it would ruin the integrity of the story.

It took me a week and a bunch of stores to find it. I guess it's very popular right now.

At a Borders like an hour away from my house. Luckily, I had other reasons to be in that area.

I read it a few months ago and thought it was really compelling. Putting it in the hands of an unproven director is going to be interesting.

Ridley Scott is making Blood Meridian into a movie, which is another one of McCarthy's novels. I'm set to read that after I finish Cold Mountain and Duma Key.

I really want to read Blood Meridian. I need to pick it up soon. I'm currently reading American Gods.

What's that about?
I wanted to get All the Pretty Horses, but they didn't have it in.
I have sooo many books that I have set out to read. I have 7 here at my apartment that I bought recently, and I have a ton at home.

Have you read Cold Mountain? Frazier writes really well, but I'll honestly admit that I'm having a little hard time following it at the beginning. I want to read this then watch the movie.

I haven't read Cold Mountain but i've seen the movie. I enjoyed it, Jude Law is excellent in it.

I've only started it but the description of American Gods is...

"Shadow dreamed of nothing but leaving prison and starting a new life. But the day before his release, his wife and best friend are killed in an accident. On the plane home to the funeral, he meets Mr. Wednesday—a beguiling stranger who seems to know everything about him. A trickster and rogue, Mr. Wednesday offers Shadow a job as his bodyguard. With nowhere left to go, Shadow accepts, and soon learns that his role in Mr. Wednesday's schemes will be far more dangerous and dark than he could have ever imagined. For beneath the placid surface of everyday life a war is being fought—and the prize is the very soul of America."

Tell me what you think when you finish it.

Have you read any of these: The Moviegoer, A Clockwork Orange, The God Delusion, or The Namesake? Those are the ones I recently bought.

I absolutely loved this book. In terms of Cormac McCarthy, I think this his best book to date.

No I haven't. I recently read In Cold Blood. I think it's easily become one of my favorite books. Have you read it?

I might have read it a long time ago for school. I really need to pick it up. I want to go pick up The Grapes of Wrath, but I didn't have enough money the last time I was buying books.
