It was about how difficult it is for a White American to make it to the NBA.

well usually you need talent to play in the pro's and the white man is severely lacking in that department these days.

if it suggested any kind of racism, thats hilarious.

i was really impressed when lupica asked howard bryant if redick and morrison would face the same antipathy if they were black...it takes serious balls to ask that question in todays america.

...there's no doubt that morrison and redick have been adored and covered to the point that they have BECAUSE they are white. If this is Rudy Gay and LaMarcus Aldridge, it wouldnt be nearly as big of a story that it is. We wouldnt hear about how they text message each other after games, play Halo online, or what one thinks of the others facial hair. America has latched on to them, first and foremost, because they are the best 2 players in the nation ... but secondly, because they are white.

I am as white as they come ..but to suggest they aren't well liked because they aren't black is insane. This is America, haha.

Did you start watching this sport this year? Dude.. with the past times there have been "co- POTYs" .. the media has done the SAME THING. Even when they're black..

I think they get less respect from the BBall association and fans surrounding it (check ESPN's message boars for proof) because they're white. People in there say Carney and Gay should be getting this attention .. not Redick and Morrison, and that it's a huge racist thing. People admit to going to games and cheering against those two BECAUSE they're white. Albeit, these posters are quite obviously (and I say this with no racism at all in my voice) very black.

haha, well I guess the statement I made in the NCAA thread couldn't last for long .. oh well. I guess I subscribe to the philosophy that when there's a problem, blame it on the oppressive white folk.

but I do think that this year's POY has gotten more publicity than recent years. Countless ESPN stories, cover of SI, constant SportsCenter references, 50/50 chance of a mention on an ESPN telecast not including either guy ... I think it's been covered beyond extensively. Whether or not it's a race thing ...I dunno. But to suggest these guys have been victimized because they are white is a little ridiculous. People have hated Reddick long before this year, and it hasn't been because of his skin color.

goddamn pretty boy that redick is, somebody should whoop his ass.
There has been a lot more talk about the POY race and like you guys said it's because of the race. i don't think a single carolina fan or any fan could possibly hate redick because of his color.
Tate i forgot that Redick does yoga too, thats the fifth reason of why i hate him. I'm envious of his flexability :(

actually they were talking about the type of players general managers look for and a different type of athleticism...people who can run and jump. it is why the nba is going down the shitter. they are the best of the best. teams shouldn't be shooting 45% from the field. I am sorry. There were talking about how white players with potential shy away from basketball because they know their chance of making it is about as slim as a black guy playing in the nhl anymore.

yeah, thats a much more viable argument. the idea of mike lupica saying we're racist towards white's almost gave me a seizure though haha.

I think this is becoming less of the case though now w/ more of an emphasis on the European players.

I think he was talking about how black players give them a hard time.

i agree with that too. i think there may be reverse racism on the court among players, but not in the media. The media loves it's all-american boys.

I have something else to say, but I know I'll seem racist so I prefer to keep my mouth kept shut.

The media loves anything that makes a story.

they has this same topic on outside the lines, and they were talking with tim legler, he said he put up with some major crap because none of the black guys wanted to be beaten by a white guy and they would raise their game when they played him, he was leading the cba in scoring and guys would still say he sucked, he even said that a bellhop challenged him once, they didn't want to get beat by the white guy, so yes white guys can go through some crap to make it in bball

i think it has gotten the publicity because these guys are both carrying their respective teams with almost no help. also, i think it is rare that the two people fighting for player of the year are the two leading scorers in the country and the fact that they are flip flopping is one reason it is covered a lot, plus they both have big back stories, redick and how he is hated by sooo many people outside of duke, morrison of how he has overcome diabetes

yeah i understand this argument and i agree with it. i definitely think it's a problem between players on the court. i thought the initial argument being made was that the country and media, as a whole, hated these guys cause they were white ..and well, thats insane haha.
