any way you put it though, friday night lights is a better movie. It has a better script, bitter direction, WAY better acting .. VB is a cheap movie made for teenagers. I guess if shallow entertainment is what you want from movies, you'd go VB. If you want a good movie, you'd go with Friday Night Lights.

well im not gonna sit here and try arguing which is a better football movie with a buch of sports obsessed fans to begin with...but fnl just isnt a movie i enjoy watching all the time...back in the day of vb, i watched it a few times. im not saying fnl isnt a good movie or that vb is a better movie, im just saying its easy to understand why someone would chose vb over fnl.

..which is for entertainment value. Much like why people watch Laguna Beach and Newlyweds. They aren't choosing it because it's a better TV show, just like thay arent choosing VB because it's a better movie. It has nothing to do w/ the sports content of it either. I don't assume that you know nothing about sports because you post in the entertainment thread, so i don't think you should expect nobody here knows anything about movies. There's kids here who are film majors.

As a film, FNL is clearly a better piece of work. VB appeals in a way to 16 year old kids who think that's there life, but if you sit down 10 movie critics in a room they are going to pick FNL regardless of how much they know about sports.

im from a small town of 7000 in southern illinois where football is ALL we have. wether our team is good, or we suck, every friday night there is aaround 3000 people at our games. the way the people in the town act, the players acted, everything reminds me of growing up.

yeah, but that's the case in FNL too.

Either way, it's understandable why people like Varsity Blues more. I enjoyed it too when I saw it as a kid. But I think if you are gonna look at a movie as a piece of art, like most critics do, its clear which movie has the upper hand. VB has entertainment value for sure ..I guess I just take it issue to someone saying it's a better film.

im not assuming anything when i make my comment. its not difficult to know something about movies. but you cant tell me, that with me coming in here into a sports forum....that everyone is gonna agree with me on my reasoning to pick vb over fnl. everyone here is gonna go for fnl because it appeals to the sports fan more than vb appealed to the sports fan. and im not saying that because you shouldnt know anything about movies cuz your a sports fan.
